While I’ve basically given up on girls’ names, my boys’ list continues to get increasingly lengthy and varied. Lately [name]Bartholomew[/name] has caught my eye, but am I crazy for liking it? Is it too much? With names like [name]Jeremiah[/name], [name]Ezekiel[/name], and [name]Malachi[/name] in the top 200, it doesn’t seem like it should be… but I’ll let you tell me.
Note: not expecting, just collecting
Honestly, I don’t hate it. I admit it is a whole lotta name, and the boy who carries it would have to OWN it in school to make it work. I actually like it better than [name]Malachi[/name].
When I was a kid I wrote a story with a protagonist named [name]Bartholomew[/name]. I picked the name because I thought it sounded funny. As an adult I can now appreciate it for its history and rarity–but I assume little [name]Bartholomew[/name]'s classmates would probably just think it sounded funny. Too much teasing potential, in my opinion.
If you’re crazy, then I’m crazy. I have [name]Bartholomew[/name] on my long list, I think it sounds very distinguished and I loove the nn Tolly. Unfortunately, I hate [name]Bart[/name] so I’d probably never use it, but it could make a very cool middle name and I’d love to see it on someone else’s baby.
I knew a [name]Bartholomew[/name] at university, when The Simpsons was uber-popular and still he went by [name]Bart[/name] with no issues. I prefer Tolly mentioned above as a nickname.
I don’t care for it. I think it too long and too much of a mouthful. Unless of course he went by [name]Bart[/name]. [name]Even[/name] then I don’t like the name [name]Bart[/name].
I actually think [name]Bartholomew[/name] is very cool! It is a bit long but sound wise [name]Bartholomew[/name] doesn’t seem as crazy as [name]Sebastian[/name] or [name]Alexander[/name]. With the nn’s [name]Art[/name]/[name]Ollie[/name] it definitely could work!
You are not crazy at all. [name]Bartholomew[/name] isn’t a personal favorite, but with [name]Ignatius[/name], [name]Erasmus[/name], [name]Waldo[/name], and [name]Clifford[/name] all on my long list, it definitely doesn’t seem unwearable to me.
I think it’s perfectly useable, although not really my style. It is long, but it has that galloping rhythm that makes it roll of the tongue without too much fuss. Also has some great nn options… [name]Ollie[/name] would be cute for when he’s young.
I like it very much and I know one with the nn Bolly which is fun.
Crazy? Of course not. To be honest, I think [name]Ezekiel[/name] is much less appealing.
Actually, [name]Bartholomew[/name]'s my boyfriend’s favorite boy name. I made a thread about [name]Bartholomew[/name] a few days ago and got pretty positive feedback. I wasn’t keen on it but it’s growing on me.
I agree it’s long but quite handsome. I hate nn [name]Bart[/name] but Tolly seems like a great alternative. Or maybe [name]Art[/name]?
I don’t watch the Simpsons so I don’t automatically think about the show. There is a book about [name]Bartholomew[/name] Cubbins and his hats so I associate the name with this character. And, if I remember right, [name]Bartholomew[/name] Cubbins is [name]Jared[/name] Leto’s alter-ego.
Hey, no, you’re not crazy! (At least, if you are, I am too, and several previous posters also, apparently.) I admit the names in my signature right now are more guilty pleasures than names I’d actually use, but I think [name]Bartholomew[/name] is wearable, especially if you picked a nickname in case the whole thing was too much of a mouthful. I’d been searching a long time for the perfect first name to go with mn [name]Prentice[/name], and when [name]Bartholomew[/name] came onto my radar I decided they worked well together.
And the [name]Bartholomew[/name] Cubbins books are a lot of fun. I still read them with my youngest sister.
Not at all! [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Bartholomew[/name].
I don’t think you’re crazy, it’s been growing on me too. However, I wouldn’t use it because it’s just far too much name to me. [name]Eleven[/name] letters, and four syllables is past my limit personally.
I think it fits with some of your other boys names though.
Only if you call him Mew for short.
Ba. I prefer [name]Barnaby[/name], [name]Barnabas[/name], [name]Bayard[/name], and [name]Basil[/name].
