[name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to to politely tell me I’m off my rocker, but… lol
Obviously, I am a huge nerd and like a lot of us, I am a huge fan of Game of Thrones. I woke up this morning with the coolest/weirdest name idea ever in my head, that I think is so perfect… [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m].
I just think it’s so cool! Not only does it honor [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_m]Stark[/name_m] with the first name [name_f]Sansa[/name_f], but House [name_m]Stark[/name_m] in general too with the middle name [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m].
I also know naming your kids after characters has become a thing over the years. Like with [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] naming his daughter [name_u]Harley[/name_u] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], and the name [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] rapidly growing in popularity after [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]'s [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_m]Granger[/name_m].
So, what do you all think? Yay or nay? And feel free to explain why you think what you think. I won’t be offended either way, just curious!
(p.s. I know I’ve posted a lot on here… but I can’t help it when names keep coming to me! Thanks for sticking with me and my name craziness :D)
Honestly, as a fan of the show myself, I understand the urge, lol, because there are some wonderful names! [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is a great combo if you really want to honor GoT. Buuut I’d maybe wait until the show has run its course before using it on an actual little girl. [name_f]Sansa[/name_f]'s character looks like she might be headed for a dark place, so you might not like her by the time the show is over. Then again, I honestly don’t see her doing anything that would make her name ‘unusable’. I’m personally perfectly okay with characters as namesakes because characters can affect us in amazing ways, but I think it’s important that when little [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] grows up, she’s not embarrassed by her namesake. I don’t think that will happen with [name_f]Sansa[/name_f], so it’s a good choice as far as that goes (better than [name_f]Melisandre[/name_f], say).
Aaaanywaaaay the point of my rambling is that, as far as Game of Thrones inspired names go, I like it, and think it’s wise. I personally wouldn’t go for it, but neither name is my style in the first place.
As someone who has never seen Game of Thrones, I think it’s a very strong name to give a girl…perhaps a bit much with both [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] and [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]?
Since [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is traditionally masculine name, it doesn’t really work. [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] is a GP of mine but I wouldn’t actually use it for a child maybe for a pet. I think using [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] would be enough to honor the show, [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is kinda overkill. It’s a great GP though.
I don’t know anything about Game of Thrones, so I wouldn’t make that connection if I can across a person with this name or other. I am not overly keen of the way it sounds - something about [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] seems rather harsh in its pronunciation. Also, I would 100% assume this child was a boy. The names is very masculine sounding - you may be able to get away with [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] for a girl, but [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is definitely a boys name, and as such I think that will just create confusion and possibly judgement (literally having a “boys name” is asking for school bullies to have a shot). Those are just my thoughts, anyway…
[name_f]Sansa[/name_f] I like, but only as a GP for the moment. [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] I don’t like for either a boy or a girl. After reading your reasoning, it seems a bit gimmicky. Like, is GoT that important that you have to name a child after it both first and middle?
[name_m]Kevin[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] is a celebrity whose daughter will probably never be hurting for money. While I think you could maybe get away with a name like [name_f]Sansa[/name_f], adding [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] as a middle just takes it a bit too far.
I’ve never watched the show, but the name is great! [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] sound a bit Sanskrit to me, and [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] seems to been gaining in popularity. Together it’s a string name!
As for the character, if you like the show then who cares! Go for it!
You name is MUCH better that the new “[name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]” names like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. However, they are beautiful names too, but I really value a unique (but not odd) name!
[name_f]Sansa[/name_f] is lovely, and [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] makes a striking combo. I don’t know that I could get behind it, though. To me, the names contrast too much, [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] seems so delicate, flowery, ladylike (even while reading the books, before there was much character expo on [name_f]Sansa[/name_f], this was how the name felt to me) and [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] seems directly at odds with that. You could try [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] Nymeria, if you’re looking for a double-barrelled GoT/House [name_m]Stark[/name_m] honor name. Personally, I love Nymeria, she was a strong woman and brilliant commander, and that’s the name [name_u]Arya[/name_u] chooses for her direwolf. Nymeria is on my list
[name_m]Long[/name_m] story short, I love [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] as a name, but the combo [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is nms. I would probably try to find a long, flowy, romantic middle, possibly sci/fantasy/mythology inspired. Like:
[name_f]Sansa[/name_f] Nymeria, discussed above
[name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] - I know it means “dolphin,” but this name originated from the Oracle at [name_f]Delphi[/name_f], with its predictions of the future. [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] is playing Littlefinger’s “long game,” which could be seen as a method of playing with/telling the future
[name_f]Sansa[/name_f] Belladonna - A little dark and mysterious, just like the journey and transformations [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] has to make
[name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_f]Nemea[/name_f] - If Nymeria is too much, maybe [name_f]Nemea[/name_f] (nih-[name_f]MAY[/name_f]-uh)? Ancient Greek city, site of the myth of the Nemean lion which could not be killed from the outside (its fur was invincible). Homage to [name_f]Sansa[/name_f]'s “tough skin” she has to develop, and a little animal element hinting at the direwolf link
Or names with wolf meanings…
[name_f]Sansa[/name_f] Lovella - Surprisingly, Lovella means “wolf,” according to nameberry
[name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] - Obvious, but I do prefer this to [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is my son and husband’s middle name, so I think it is awesome. It’s kind of intriguing for a girl. I’m not sure how I feel about it, but I’m leaning towards “it’s kind of cool,” but it still is difficult for me to envision on a girl, even in the middle name slot. I have seen the show but am not a huge fan (WHAT?! I know, most people are shocked haha.) but I do think [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] is a really neat name. I would associate [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] with the show but not [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m].
I’ve never watched Game of Thrones, so I’m not connected to the association, but by just looking and hearing the name, I really dig it. [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is strong and badass.
