Am I Crazy?!

Okay, so I had just finished binging Mad Men and thus, began the obligatory Wikipedia deep-dive into the cast. I found out that [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_m]Par[/name_m]é has a son named [name_m]Blues[/name_m]. I went through the typical eye roll because a celebrity named their kid something unconventional, (surprise, surprise) but as I said it over and over again in my head, I really started to lean into it. I’ve known a few people with the name [name_u]Blue[/name_u] (mostly for their middle names.) So, I thought [name_m]Blues[/name_m] was a fresh take on it. The music association was a nice touch for me. Am I crazy? Or is there really something there?

I’ve never heard of or thought of it as a name before, but I think I like it! It reminds me of [name_u]Cruz[/name_u]. And the more I say it, the more I prefer it over [name_u]Blue[/name_u]. This is definitely a name to mull over!

I quite like it too. I like that she used it with a very mainstream middle ([name_m]Anthony[/name_m], I think?) It’s quirky but simple and wearable.

@katinka I love that she used a mainstream middle too and [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] fits really well with [name_m]Blues[/name_m]. It also allows for a backup in the event they don’t like their name. I was thinking [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] or [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], but I don’t have a definite one for [name_m]Blues[/name_m] yet.

Are you a big fan of word names?

Personally, I know I can’t trust my initial reaction to any word name.

I find all the “classic” word names I’m familiar with very tacky. “[name_u]River[/name_u]” “[name_u]Rain[/name_u]” “[name_u]Skye[/name_u]”. Initially I was intrigued by them but after hearing them over and over and realized they felt incredibly superficial. For me, I feel that there is no substance to a name that tells you exactly what it means.

So even when I hear a new one ([name_m]Atlas[/name_m] springs to mind) and I don’t initially shy away from it, I know it’s just neophilia, which wear off soon and then I’ll develop a great distaste for the name.

Ask yourself if this rings any bells for you - if so word names may not be right for you.

It does sound distinguished in a way like [name_m]Wells[/name_m] and [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], but I immediately think of blues clues.
