Am I making a mistake with Delilah ?!

So after months of thinking and deciding on my daughters name we have decided on [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. My Sons name is [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I particularly like [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] but my OH likes [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] better so have agreed she will be [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and nn [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]! Although I am not paticularly religious I have been Christened so has my OH and so we got out [name_m]Son[/name_m] christened. However after writing on forums about the name [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] some people were dead against it because of its biblical meaning! I was actually unaware of this and so are many of my friends and family and all seem to love the name. I am now worried though that I am making a mistake if I was to get her christened too or she got married in a church one day would she be looked down on because of her name! Help! Thought is decided with only 3 weeks left now I’m worried!

Also to add I am British… Sometimes I get completely different opinions for British people to American etc so please take that In to consideration as she will be living in [name_f]England[/name_f]!

I honestly love the name [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and seeing as you got outside opinions from friends and family and they were all supportive, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
I think the worry about the name is relative to the environment that you live in and there doesn’t seem to be any problems where you live.
I grew up in a religious family (my granny always took us to church) but I am not a practising Catholic so for me it is not an issue

id never use it do to the meaning, which is pretty well known.

however it is lovely and gotten lots of good press due to the Plain White T’s song

i like [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], but i dont like [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] - feel its a name that doesnt need a nickname, [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] somehow changes the whole feel

I absolutely love the name! I think of ‘Hey there [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]’ and the word delightful which is a gorgeous first connection for your little girl!

I wouldn’t worry, I would honestly think most primary and high schoolers wouldn’t have any idea of it’s meaning these days, probably even less when she’s in school! It’s such a beautiful name, I especially love the combo! If worst came to worst she could change it to [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] when she’s older.

I think [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is absolutely beautiful, and it pairs so well with [name_m]Archie[/name_m]'s name (which I also adore by the way).

Stick to your guns, [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is precious and you both love it, which is what matters.

I am American, I’m not sure if that matters to my opinion or not. I personally would never use the name [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] (because of the Biblical figure, not really because of the meaning). I think using it depends a lot on the circles you move in, so the fact that your family and friends all like it is good, but I would also argue that you need to consider the circles your daughter might move in in the future, which obviously is hard to predict. So to me, it’s a name choice that carries some risk, it’s just up to you whether you’re confident enough in the name to take the risk. In all honesty I do think it’s a pretty name, I just don’t think I would ever be able to get past the connotations from the Biblical [name_f]Delilah[/name_f].

Honestly? I would pass. It’s just such a loaded name, despite its beauty. (I can see why you like it, based on sound alone.) If you do choose it, let’s just hope she doesn’t grow up to date a long-haired dude named [name_u]Sam[/name_u].

Personally, I adore the name [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]. But when it comes to [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], I’m not sure I could get past the biblical meaning…but I was raised very Catholic. Honestly, I think [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is a beautiful sounding name though and I find it frustrating that it has that negative association b/c otherwise it’s a gorgeous name! That said, if I wasn’t religious and neither were my friends or family then I probably wouldn’t worry about it.

PS just love your son’s name [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]! So cute!

Thanks for the opinion! It is so weird most American people seem so against it that’s why I said as I wasn’t sure if over there is seen differently to here! I do really like it and until joining this forum had no idea about the biblical meaning at all and no comments from anyone! So think ill stick with it! X

Im in [name_f]England[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is beautiful. If she had an issue with it as an adult she could change to [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]. X
