What do you think of [name_f]Amabel[/name_f]? Is it too likely to be mistaken for [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]? [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce it–[name_m]AH[/name_m]-mah-bel, AM-ah-bel, some other way? What nicknames do you like for it?
I really like it. I would say [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-mah-bel. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] are my favorite nicknames.
[name_m]AH[/name_m]-ma-bell, definitely. This name is very sweet, like a super sugary hybrid between [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], which isn’t a bad thing. I love it! I don’t think a literate person could mistake [name_f]Amabel[/name_f] for [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] on paper (unless someone’s handwriting is atrocious.) Saying it out loud, I can definitely see it getting confused, but that’s okay. She might just have to repeat it or spell it out occasionally. I wouldn’t think it would be a common occurrence.
I like [name_f]Amabel[/name_f] ([name_m]AH[/name_m]-mah-bel), and I think [name_f]Ama[/name_f] would be a cute nn. I don’t think it would be mistaken for [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] unless you pronounced the first syllable to rhyme with [name_f]Ann[/name_f], which is not intuitive I don’t think. Another kind of similar name I love is [name_f]Alma[/name_f].
I would instinctively say it AM-ah-bel unless I was otherwise corrected. I think [name_f]Ama[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] are great nicknames. I think it’s so close to [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] that it will be mistaken as [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].
As an [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], I am not a massive fan of this name - it just looks wrong to me having written [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] my whole life. I’m not sure about the rest of the world, but this isn’t a common name in the UK - I think it would definitely be confused with [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. However I do like it’s nicknames - especially [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]! I would definitely be inclined to just use [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] on its own though.
