When you say the name [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], do you pronounce the “mal” syllable like the first part of [name_f]Molly[/name_f] (uh-MAH-lee-uh) or the like the first syllable in [name_u]Mallory[/name_u] (uh-MAL-ee-uh)?
I love this name, but my brain can’t seem to settle on a default pronunciation. I think the second pronunciation (like [name_u]Mallory[/name_u]) is a little more intuitive for me and also easier to say, but I want to see what’s intuitive for other people. I think I prefer the sound of the second pronunciation as well, although [name_f]Molly[/name_f] as a nickname would be really cute for the first pronunciation.
Also, let me know if anyone blends the last part of the name into one syllable, like a “yuh” or “yah” sound instead of “ee-uh.” [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious!
ah-MAH-lia is how I pronounce it, but the ah sound is the same as [name_f]Ana[/name_f] (AH-na). [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is a different sound in my accent.
I’ve only ever heard it as uh-MOLL-ee-uh or uh-MOLL-ya (moll like mall, tall, [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f]). I personally say the former.
I pronounce it more uh-MAY-lee-uh. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is completely different in my accent, a more distinct O sound than an AH sound if that makes sense.
For me it’s a-MAR-lee-uh which I think you could also write as a-MAH-lee-uh. It doesn’t sound like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] (MOLL-ee) in my dialect, it’s more like [name_u]Marley[/name_u] (MARL-ee). Either way it’s a beautiful name!
I would say it like [name_f]Molly[/name_f]–uh-MAH-lee-uh–although the last two syllables merge a little when I say them. I know one [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] and this is how she says it!
