What are your thoughts on the name [name]Amalia[/name]? Apparently my birthname is a nickname for it, so it’s got me into to thinking about it.

I’m still bothered by the -mal- syllable, it always bugged me that it meant “bad” in several languages, especially since that’s one of my frequently used nicknames. I love the A beginning and ending, and that -lia —> [name]Lia[/name] —> [name]Lea[/name] — > [name]Leya[/name].
It also sounds a bit dull I think…and closer to malaria.

What are your opinions?

[name]Malia[/name] is a super chavvy European holiday destination and that’s all I hear when I see [name]Amalia[/name] : /

Well I love the sound. While I prefer [name]Amelia[/name], I do think [name]Amalia[/name] is very pretty and I love the potential nickname of [name]Molly[/name]! I don’t think most people are going to notice the [name]MAL[/name] part and think bad.
