Amalie pronunciation?

[name]How[/name] do you pronounce [name]Amalie[/name]? Is it ah-muh-lee?

Thanks,
[name]Payton[/name]

I think you mean [name]Amelie[/name]. I say it ‘am-eh-lee’.

I pronounce it “ah-MAH-lee” and I think most English speakers would pronounce it the same way. However, I believe the [name]German[/name] pronunciation would include the final “e” so it would be “ah-MAH-lee-uh”.

I was thinking ah-MAH-lee (almost like ah-[name]Molly[/name]), too. The proper French pronunciation for [name]Amelie[/name] is close to ah-MILL-ee (or ah-[name]MAY[/name]-lee–it varies on the region of [name]France[/name]), so ah-[name]Molly[/name] makes a lot of sense to me.

[name]Amalie[/name] I would say like A-may-lee. [name]Amelie[/name] is more popular and I say it like Am-[name]Ellie[/name].

There seems to be some confusion. [name]Amalie[/name] is the [name]German[/name] version of [name]Amelia[/name] and is pronounced differently than the French spelling Amélie.

Yep. It’s also the name that the Dutch crown princess goes by. In my regular American speech, I’d pronounce it [name]AH[/name]-muh-lee. I believe the Dutch and [name]German[/name] pronunciation would be ah-MAH-lee-uh. For reference, I would say [name]Amelie[/name] as [name]AH[/name]-meh-lee and Amélie as ah-may-[name]LEE[/name]. Or something like that.

[name]Ah[/name], ok. Sorry, I thought it was a typo

In English, I pronounce [name]Amelie[/name] as [name]AH[/name]-muh-lee.

In French, Amélie is ah-meh-[name]LEE[/name], with stress on the last syllable.

Thank you all for the replies!
