Amarantha?

What are your thoughts on this name?

I had a name crush on [name_f]Amarantha[/name_f] a couple months ago. There are two ways you can pronounce it; either with the ‘th’ sound or with a hard ‘T’ sound. [name_f]Amaranta[/name_f] is the Spanish/Italian variant. I love its meaning- it’s so poetic. [name_f]Amarantha[/name_f] is unique and lush; like [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] but lovelier.

I love [name_f]Amarantha[/name_f]'s meaning. I agree with @roseofjune that it’s almost like [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] but lovelier. The only downside I see people thinking of amaranth flour upon hearing it, but even that would be very unlikely.

It’s a lovely name. It was on my short list for a few years, but I found names I love more. So, it’s now on my long list.

My main association with [name_f]Amarantha[/name_f] is a church or something and the spelling [name_f]Amaranta[/name_f] I associate with the daughter in [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_u]Garcia[/name_u] Márquez’s novel “100 Years of Solitude”. It’s very pretty, strong and feminine… Would be lovely to see it used more often.

It reminds me of the grain, sorry. I love [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] though.

I am lukewarm. It reminds me of One Hundred Years Of Solitude. [name_f]Amaranta[/name_f] [name_f]Ursula[/name_f].

It took me a minute or two to figure out the prounciation of [name_f]Amarantha[/name_f], but after I did I found [name_f]Amarantha[/name_f] absolutly beautiful

Thanks for the thoughts everyone - I’m surprised that most of them are positive!

Not a fan of it personally, sorry.

For some reason it sounds like a prescription medication to me.

I love this name. It is so satisfying to say aloud. It has a musical quality to it. Sadly, though, I think it is too long. The beautiful and regal [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] has the same problem.

If you can come up with a nickname that you love, then I would go for it.

I like it.
