Amaryllis

I am not pregnant but am finding this really pretty at the moment. I love the Greek roots and the fact that it is a floral name too.
What do you berries think of it? Would it ever be useable as a first name or it it too much? Can you think of any first names that it would complement if used in the mn slot?

Thank you in advance for your opinions

I love [name]Amaryllis[/name]! [name]Ever[/name] since I first saw “The [name]Music[/name] [name]Man[/name]” I thought that the name was just lovely.

Here are some thoughts:

[name]Flora[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Martha[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Jane[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]

It’s one of those names I probably wouldn’t use, but would love to see it on someone else! Plus it means to sparkle, which I think is pretty awesome. It’s got a lot of literary history as well.

[name]LOVE[/name] IT [name]LOVE[/name] IT [name]LOVE[/name] IT!!! Such an awesome, interesting, uncommon name!!

I hadn’t realised that it meant ‘to sparkle’. That is a lovely meaning.
If anybody has a negative opinion, I don’t mind at all!

I can see how it might be too much as a first name. But, like pp said - I’d love to see it on somebody else!

Many thanks!
Can anybody think of a good nick name or any first names which would flow well with [name]Amaryllis[/name] as a middle name?

[name]Love[/name] it. A rare example of a longer flower name that doesn’t sound cutesy.

[name]Amy[/name] is possible, but doesn’t feel natural because it changes the short A to long. Rilly is obvious, and it will drive people to inquire what the real name is. The question is, do you want a nickname that is a familiar name or nickname, or one that still makes it obvious this isn’t a common name?

Nicknames:

[name]Marilla[/name] (from [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]May[/name]
Lissy
[name]Lissa[/name]
[name]Riley[/name] (?)
[name]Rilla[/name]

First names:
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Eleni[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Eulalie[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Ione[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]-- but it’s very naturey
[name]Juliet[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Lilou[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]-- but it’s quite long
[name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name]

Thanks [name]Cecily[/name]!
I like [name]Mary[/name] and [name]Rilla[/name] as nns. I also like [name]Amy[/name] although it is a bit of a stretch!

Thank you to everyone who replied. I can always rely on nameberries not to reject a name just because it is unusual!
