Ambrose troubles...any advice?

So [name]Ambrose[/name] along with [name]Finn[/name], [name]Viggo[/name], [name]Dimitri[/name] and [name]Aurelius[/name] is on my final 5. However I’ve just recently encountered a problem that could come up later on with [name]Ambrose[/name]…

My fiance’s sister and I were having a chat about our final 5. She loved them and asked if we were going to have more children after our son to which I replied maybe in a year or two. Then the topic of future daughters names came up and I told her that if we have a daughter next time, we might go with a [name]Rose[/name]- name like [name]Rosalind[/name] or [name]Rosamund[/name]. However she pointed out that if we name our son [name]Ambrose[/name] then we would already have a boy with rose in his name and that it wouldn’t be a good idea to use a rose name for a daughter because our son could get teased or we might lock ourselves in a theme of rose- names.

This is really bugging me because I don’t want to get rid of [name]Ambrose[/name] but I don’t want to rule out the possibility of girls names with [name]Rose[/name] in them since [name]Theo[/name] and I both love so many of them.

I’m unsure of what to do. Please help berries… what do you think? Can an [name]Ambrose[/name] have a sister named [name]Rosemary[/name] or [name]Rosalind[/name]?

Thanks in advance!

I honestly think it’s too close; you’re better off having one or the other for a first name. However, you can probably get away with having [name]Ambrose[/name] in the middle slot, or your future daughter having a [name]Rose[/name] name as her middle name. I myself think that [name]Dimitri[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name] is quite handsome.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hmm :frowning: do you think rose names that have a different pronunciation on the rose ( like [name]Rosalind[/name] which can be said roz-ah-lind or [name]Rosamund[/name] which is said roz-ah-mund) could make a difference at all?

Sound-wise, I think it can be pulled off, however, someone looking at your children’s names might think it’s odd if you have [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], and [name]Dimitri[/name] as a sibset, for example. They might wonder where the ‘[name]Ros[/name]’ part is in [name]Dimitri[/name]'s name, haha.

Perhaps, if your son turns out to be [name]Ambrose[/name], and you have a future daughter, you can give her a [name]Rose[/name] name in the middle slot, then call her by her middle name as a nickname? I guess it’s a little pointless, but it keeps you from being stuck in a [name]Rose[/name] pattern, if that’s something you want to avoid.

For what it’s worth, a second boy could be [name]Penrose[/name], [name]Rosevelt[/name]/[name]Roosevelt[/name], or [name]Rosendo[/name] in a [name]Rose[/name] sibset, so you have options if you do end up going with a [name]Rose[/name] pattern.

Hmm I guess I will have to do some deep thinking about whether I’d like to keep [name]Ambrose[/name]…I really don’t want a theme…but it will be hard as I love the softness, masculinity, history and uncommonness in [name]Ambrose[/name] which is hard to find in boys names. Plus the fact that it is the only name on my list keeping my interest at the moment…

Thanks for your help!

I love names in that category, [name]Blaise[/name] (blaze) and [name]Hale[/name] are soft spots for me. And I agree! So many great classic names are so popular right now…

Keep us updated!

I think it’d be a definite matchy-theme if you ended up with an [name]Ambrose[/name] and a [name]Rosalind[/name] (etc). And while [name]Ambrose[/name] is definitely a masculine name, when it’s standing next to a distinctly feminine [name]Rose[/name] name, like [name]Rosalind[/name], it makes [name]Ambrose[/name] feels a bit feminine too. What about the Welsh variation of [name]Ambrose[/name] ([name]Emrys[/name])? Or if you put [name]Ambrose[/name] in the middle spot, then you still get to use it (and it is an awesome name), but it wouldn’t limit your future girls’ names. And all your top 5 are pretty awesome, by the way.

Thanks for the feedback!

I think I will still keep [name]Ambrose[/name]. After all I might not have a daughter and if I don’t I might regret not using [name]Ambrose[/name] if that’s what my son turns out being. But who knows he might not turn out to be an [name]Ambrose[/name]! [name]Will[/name] see when the baby is born.

No biggie [name]IMO[/name]. I’d just assume that grandma or some other important person was named [name]Rose[/name]. I can see the issue of having a 3rd child without a rose name but I don’t see it as a major problem
