I am coming up on 30 weeks into my first pregnancy and I am stressing out about the PERFECT name for our little baby girl V on the way! My husband and I adore [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but it is so terribly popular and would hate for her to be in a classroom full of them. My original favorite is Amélie, but I know that Americans (to include our family) will have trouble pronouncing it. And then, out of left field, I particularly love [name_f]Isla[/name_f] as it is short, sweet, feminine, and not as popular.
Lastly, we want to honor my hubby’s late mother, [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] somehow in the middle name or nickname. Here are my options so far…
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] V.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Edie[/name_f] V.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] V.
Amélie [name_u]Eden[/name_u] V.
Amélie [name_f]Marie[/name_f] V.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] V.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] Amélie V.

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is pronounced almost exactly as it is spelled, so most people probably won’t struggle with it too much, and if they do they will learn quickly. People mispronounce names all the time, even really common names. I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and like both of your combos, [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is my favourite.
I also really love [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is my absolute favourite, although [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] would all sound lovely as well.
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t use [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] unless you really love it. It is currently at #11 and has been rising for a while, it is likely to enter the top 10 soon enough. If you love the name [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] unconditionally, go for it, but if popularity matters to you, go with one of your other favourites. One name I always suggest to people who like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] as it sounds so similar but is incredibly unique in comparison to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (#802 in 2015).

I was seriously considering [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], but the hubby turned it down rather quickly! Not sure what is really was about it because it does sound similar. We are both pilots so he loves the idea of having our own little [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] Amélie (pronounced aah-meh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]) is my going fav but his mom isn’t honored at all. :-/
I would suggest skipping the [name_m]French[/name_m] choice as will be mispronounced pretty much all thw time as Ammalee (instead of ah-mae-lee).
I would definitely vote against [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. My personal filter for names is imagining my child’s CV is being read by a person maybe 40 yrs my child’s senior and imagining that person’s reaction to my child’s name. Studies show that there is a correlation between familiairty of names and likelihood to be hired … When qualifications are exactly the same. This is especially true when folks arent 100% sure how to pronounce a name. I’d guess this could be the case for [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. (ie is it Izla? or Eyela?)
If you and your husband both love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], I wouldn’t be afraid to use it! It is becoming popular, and may continue to do so, but I think that is for good reason - its a great name.
My personal vote would be for [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u]. I think its uncommon but familiar, and a gorgeous match with [name_u]Eden[/name_u]. I do think [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is simple enough to pronounce that most people wouldn’t struggle with it any more then usual.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is my favourite.
It might be a long shot, but -melie and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] seem similar to me. I’m wondering if maybe you could use [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] to honour [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]?
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] would be pronounced “Eye-la” (Scottish pronunciation). I agree that more common names are definitely easier all around - which is what I think makes it common.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] is definitely the overall front runner because of how much my husband (and me to an extent) is stuck on the name :-/. I sure appreciate the further verification that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] Amélie (which does sound fairly close to [name_f]Marie[/name_f]) is a viable candidate in the debate!
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is too overused for my taste. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is beautiful and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is as well. you cant go wrong with either. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] are both beautiful names
