Amelia?

I’ve never properly seen myself having an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and, while it does/did feel like it COULD be something I would use, I’m not entirely sure.

  1. Is it too common/boring now? I only know little [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]'s, not [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]'s, so it’s a bit hard for me to tell. Where I live, more uncommon names tend to be used, or the constantly popular [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f] & [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f]. Classic names here do happen, but are usually more unusual - it’s rare to meet a little [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], so I’m looking for a general idea. I do hear it often/see it often on here though.

  2. Does it seem to fit my style of [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], etc?

  3. Would you prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mia[/name_f]?

  4. What combo do you prefer - [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]?

Should I keep [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] on my list, or keep it off? [name_f]My[/name_f] little sister has sort of, informally ‘claimed’ it, with [name_f]Amy[/name_f] as the nickname (thanks to [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who), so that’s another factor that sort of holds me back.

Ha, there are so many names I’ve claimed from my sister too. But I wouldn’t take it too seriously.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is one of my most consistent favourites, and probably one of my first. It’s a family name and just feels classically beautiful to me. In my head it’s like, classic-dated, along with [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]/[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]/[name_f]Holly[/name_f] - I know several my age or older in the UK but they’re still being used consistantly (I think names like these just take their time to slide down the charts especially in the UK for some reason). But it’s in a totally charming way.

But I do feel it’s a bit dull, I can’t personally see myself with an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (oh and my cousin has an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] now anyway). I think I’m more likely to use it in the middle for honoring reasons.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is nice. I like the idea of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] as sisters.
Have you considered [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] (ah-mah-lee)? I also absolutely love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f] for some reason. It gives it so much more personality, even though I usually consider [name_f]Jane[/name_f] quite bland.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. It’s on my own list.

  1. Is it too common/boring now? etc – I don’t think so. I’ve NEVER met an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] or any variation of them. I love it and think it sounds playful and sweet will still being grown up and it has tons of nicknames.

  2. Does it seem to fit my style of [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], etc? – Yes, I do. It fits beautifully in with those names and I even think it works with the more nicknamey ones you like because [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] has the same vintage but sweet and playful feeling.

  3. Would you prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mia[/name_f]? – of those options, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] (strongly hate [name_f]Mia[/name_f]) but I love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mila[/name_f] or [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]

  4. What combo do you prefer - [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]? – [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] then [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

And no one can claim a name. If it were a really weird or unusual name, sure that would be harder to avoid looking bad if you used it, but no one can just say they’re using it and ban you from it. Who ever has a daughter first gets it is how it works.

I really like the name [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] although [name_f]Amy[/name_f] is one of my least favorite companions in the entire 50 year run of the show. As for popularity I have never met any of any age. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is my favorite combo out of those. I also like full name better than the nicknames. Are you or your sister planning to have children soon?

  1. I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a lovely name and is too pretty and strong to be boring. The only ones I know are both beyond school age. I’ve only met 1 [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].

  2. Yup. Sure does.

  3. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] by a long shot. I also know an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] that goes by [name_f]Amy[/name_f].

  4. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

I plan to within the next 5 years (I’m 18) but since she’s 15, I’m most likely to have them first, haha.

In that case I wouldn’t worry as much about dibs. I know my name crushes fluctuated a lot at 14, 15 and she could very well have new names by then! Besides we are just about to enter the Capaldi era, [name_f]Amy[/name_f] could be old news before long ;).

[name_u]True[/name_u] haha, mine did too. I definitely doubt she’ll move on from [name_f]Amy[/name_f] though :stuck_out_tongue: [name_m]David[/name_m] Tennant and [name_m]Matt[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] are her all time favourite people ever to grace the earth. I try to follow [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who when she talks about it, but it’s difficult for me. All I’ve gathered is that [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Amy[/name_f]) and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] are two of her favourite names, she approves of the name [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and [name_m]Matt[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] is hot…yeah.

She should look into the classic series if she hasn’t yet, the whole run was recently added to hulu. She might like [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Davison[/name_m] if she’s a Tennant fan.

We haven’t got hulu yet, but she has looked into buying the classic ones  [name_f]My[/name_f] dad used to love it, his favourite is [name_m]Tom[/name_m] [name_m]Baker[/name_m], I know the two of them looked into his seasons together (here you can buy collections of each classic doctor’s episodes fairly easily) but that’s it. Isn’t [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Davison[/name_m] the father of [name_m]David[/name_m] Tennant’s wife?

I like the name [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but I wouldn’t use it. Popularity is an issue for me.

In answer to your questions:

  1. personally I feel [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is too popular. She was number 1 in the UK in 2012. I do know quite a few [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]'s personally.

  2. I can see how it fits your style as it is an older name, as are the ones you listed.

  3. Always [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. I know an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Millie[/name_f] which has totally put me off the name (which I wasn’t fond of anyway). I adore [name_f]Mia[/name_f] as a name by itself but think it works lovely as a nn for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

  4. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is my favourite. These names really compliment each other.

Keep her on your list, and then see how you feel about it. If it doesn’t feel right then you can leave her aside.

That’s right! He’s also the most similar classic [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] to Tennant – going by fiance’s opinion on this, he is also a big [name_m]David[/name_m] Tennant fangirl for a grown man ;p.

  1. Yes, it is definitely common (but not boring, imo). I know some Amelias and Emilias.

  2. Yes, yes, yes

  3. I love [name_f]Millie[/name_f] the most. [name_f]My[/name_f] old friend [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a [name_u]Mel[/name_u], btw.

  4. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

I dont think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is too popular, There are none in my 2nd and 3rd graders classes. I have a friend whose daughter is [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] and her nick names are [name_f]Lia[/name_f] or [name_f]Meli[/name_f] (melee) instead of [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. I think I prefer those over [name_f]Millie[/name_f], & [name_f]Lia[/name_f] isnt as popular as mia. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my opinion. Best of [name_m]Luck[/name_m] to you
