I’m looking for opinions on [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but I don’t want to be told it’s overly popular or “trendy” - I am well aware of that and yes it’s a slight turn off for me. However, it’s a name I’ve been forcing myself to not love because it’s popular which is leaving me with names I don’t really like.
Things I’m looking for:
Honest opinions on the name itself
[name_m]How[/name_m] do [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] work? Are they too similar? We call him [name_u]Sam[/name_u] 100% of the time and with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] we would not use a nn
Middle name suggestions - something along the lines of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] without being so long
I think the name is very pretty. I think it is rather frilly and I have a hard time pronouncing it, which would be the downsides that I could see (main reasons why we aren’t using it).
I think [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] definitely work as siblings! They do have “am” in common, but they are pronounced differently, I think…[name_u]Sam[/name_u] has a “[name_m]Ah[/name_m]” sound while I say [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] with an “uh” sound. You’re fine here
In place of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], I would’ve suggested [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], or [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], but they don’t sound too good with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] could be shortened to [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or [name_u]Josie[/name_u]? Other classic names like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]:
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (which has a biblical tie like [name_m]Samuel[/name_m])
[name_f]Susan[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_u]Joan[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]/[name_f]Dianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a darling name, to be honest! As for popularity - it’s popular nationally, but popularity varies drastically from state to state - names in the 400s nationally rank in some states’ top 100 and some national favourites don’t appear at all in other states. You could live in a state where [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is #3 or a state where [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is #103 - it’s a bit hard to tell, that’s why I never really rule names out on statistics alone.
I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is very sweet, and beautiful - it fits in with the classic name trend ([name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], etc.) but it doesn’t feel too dusty either. It works really well with anything - I love its versatility!
I think [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] work really well together - both classic, timeless choices that pair up perfectly. I also like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] without a NN - and I actually prefer the sound of [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]!
I like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but they do feel a bit long - how about;
