Amelie or Amelia?

Since Amelie has pronunciation issues and can be confused with Emily, I wonder wouldn’t it be better to use Amelia instead?
I know about Amelia’s huge popularity, would it deter you from using it?

I much prefer Amelie. Not sure why though, I just find it prettier. Amelia’s popularity bothers me but that’s not the only reason.

Amelia’s popularity does deter me, unfortunately! I would much rather go for Amelie if only my SO liked it as much as I do

[name_f]My[/name_f] choice is [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] but then it would be… it’s my daughter’s name. Yes, people occasionally pronounce it incorrectly and it is frustrating but it’s just so much more beautiful than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (in my opinion) and so much less common. I love its [name_u]French[/name_u] vintage vibe and and the reference to the film, which I love. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a lovely name but, to me at least, lacklustre in comparison.

I prefer [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] since it’s shorter and less common. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] is gorgeous btw! I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is pretty and I have it on my list, but the popularity definitely deters me from using it.

I definitely prefer Amelie!

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] 100%! [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] is adorable.

I love Amelie! It’s a front runner for me. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is beautiful but I’ve met so many so the shine has been taken off it. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] is amazing.

I prefer [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Amalie[/name_f] to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]

I think that’s mostly because of the popularity though. Although I also prefer [name_f]Emily[/name_f] to Amelia. I do love [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] though.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is definitely [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] it’s so soft and delicate

i much prefer Amelie. it has so much more spark

I prefer Amelie.

I’ve personally never been a fan of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is a lovely fresh twist. [name_f]My[/name_f] cousin has a daughter named [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], and she has had a bit of confusion, but it’s quickly cleared up

I love Amelie! It seems fresher and more authentic, while [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a classic and imo slightly over-popular. Although, they are both wonderful name. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] is really pretty!

I really love Amelia!!!

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is beautiful, but to me it sits in between [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and doesn’t feel like enough of it’s own name. But I also feel that way about Emilia.

I’ve loved [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] since I was maybe 15? The top 10 aspect was a deterrent, but my husband having an [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] in his family was the nail in the coffin. There was this great naming book that said the top 10 now is not like the top 10 when we were growing up or our parents generation. There’s a lot more diversity in names and the top 10 names are not the same density that they once where.

As someone whose name was always mispronounced and misspelled, I’m going with something spelled really one way.

Amelia’s nice; I just can’t seem to get excited about it.

Amelie’s very special to me for personal reasons, so it would be worth the pronunciation mistakes for me. I think [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] is pretty.

I also love [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], for what it’s worth, and [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] is super lovely–I think I like it even more than Amelia/Amelie with Vesper?

Good luck!

We’re using Amelia. I don’t care how popular it is. Actually, if anything it’s good. We wanted a familiar, common name that people would know how to spell and pronounce. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] might confuse some people, so that’d be a deterrent for me personally.
