We have a son, [name_m]Ames[/name_m], and are awaiting gender on baby 2. We want to name it [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] either way, even though it is more often a girls name, there a significant amount of little dude Marlowes as well.
We both like the full spelling better, [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], but for some reason it feels a little more feminine, and I wonder if we should use [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] for a boy, even though we like [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] better. Thoughts?
I think [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] works well for a boy, like the playwright. Alternatively, [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] feels handsome and tailored and is a middle ground between the two.
i really love marlowe for either gender!! it’s firmly gender neutral for me. Honestly I actually don’t think [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] makes it look any more masculine, i prefer the full spelling personally
I’m not a [name_u]Berry[/name_u] that tells everyone to just go with what they love the most but instead think of their child first, however, with [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], while it does read a litte more feminine, I don’t think he’ll have a problem, at least no more than with any other spelling (as the name generally is given to more girls). [name_m]Ames[/name_m] & [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] look very handsome together!
I love your older son’s name, and I love [name_u]Marlo[/name_u](w)(e)! I actually think [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] feels more feminine, maybe just because I think of [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]? She’s not a particularly strong association for me in general (I really know nothing about her), but just where I first heard the name. So I think [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] works great here. I also love @katinka’s suggestion of using [name_u]Marlow[/name_u]–I think it’s my favorite spelling of this name in general, as it just feels really nicely balanced to me! You really can’t go wrong here though. Good luck!
I love [name_u]Marlo[/name_u](we) for both genders but agree with @dandy_orchid that [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] feels more feminine than [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] to me because of [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. I think [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] works well for either and also love @katinka’s suggestion of [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] for a boy.
I absolutely love [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] it’s such a gorgeous name for either a little boy or girl. [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is a lovely upbeat name really gorgeous! For boys I think [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] feels more masculine and looks visually more tailored in comparison too [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] which feels more feminine and free spirited. I think the ‘e’ makes a subtle difference. Still think either spelling does work for either sex despite think [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] feels more masculine. In relation to [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] this is my least favourite spelling just feels incomplete so I would scrap this spelling.
I actually think [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] leans more feminine, while [name_u]Marlow[/name_u]/Marlowe are more unisex. I loooove [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] (or [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]) on a boy! It’s one of my top boys names!
I actually find [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] more masculine than [name_u]Marlo[/name_u], perhaps because of poet/playwright [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. It’s a fantastic name; I especially love it for a boy!
I love [name_u]Marlow[/name_u]/Marlowe! The only version I don’t like is [name_u]Marlo[/name_u], but that’s just because it looks incomplete to me since I’m familiar with the character [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] in one of my favorite books, Heart of Darkness. [name_f]My[/name_f] vote is [name_u]Marlow[/name_u], but [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] isn’t terrible.
I’m always one to say a spelling shouldn’t feminize a name because it’s literally the same name when you say it out loud, but I do like [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] better for a boy and [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] for a girl. [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] is really popular so [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] wouldn’t be weird on a boy.
My aunt by marriage has a niece named M@rlo (not technically my cousin). I’ve always prefer the spelling [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] so I would say that one! ^.^
