What is your opinion of this name? Would you like to meet a little girl named [name_f]Amity[/name_f]?
I have a love/hate relationship with this name. I love it. [name_f]Love[/name_f] how it sounds. But hate that even I can’t see the name without thinking of Amityville Horror. I think it’s a connection almost anyone would make. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to consider.
I love the name [name_f]Amity[/name_f], and honestly, I think a large group of people are beginning to look past Amityville Horror. I say go for it, by the time your daughter’s in school, I’m fairly certain Amityville Horror will be one of those ‘lame horror movies your parents watched’ much as some of the 1970’s and 1980’s ones are for me. I wouldn’t have connected [name_f]Amity[/name_f] to Amityville right away, and besides that, Amityville is an actual town in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] state with plenty of people living in it - if the movie didn’t deter people from living in the town of Amityville, the movie shouldn’t deter you from [name_f]Amity[/name_f] as a name.
Yes, I would love to meet anyone else named [name_f]Amity[/name_f]. You’ll still get the Amityville Horror associations once in a blue moon, but even when I was growing up in the early 90’s it was rarely mentioned. The Divergent series is being made into film and the first one comes out next spring (I think)…there is an [name_f]Amity[/name_f] faction in it which basically exemplifies the actual meaning of the name. So there will be some positive PR for once, yay! It is also fun to run across it used as a word in literature like the Canterbury Tales, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f], and even Gone With the Wind. Occasionally I’ll meet someone who knows [name_m]French[/name_m] or has a large vocabulary who is familiar with the word and likes it.

I actually really love [name_f]Amity[/name_f]. I would love to meet someone named [name_f]Amity[/name_f]! I would not make the Amityville Horror association unless someone pointed it out, and frankly, there are bad associations for almost any name. Kids born in this era will definitely not make that association.
I really like the name. Its unique, but familiar sounding.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] it!
I love [name_f]Amity[/name_f]!
Hey maybe it’s an American thing or something but I have no idea what Amityville Horror is haha. So maybe this means that association is dying, thankfully, as it sounds like an ugly connotation. [name_f]Amity[/name_f] sounds very sweet and elegant vibe. [name_f]Amity[/name_f] is an unusual choice which is cool but is still known thus creates the perfect balance. [name_f]Amity[/name_f] feels so pure and classy. I also love the AM EE (not [name_f]Amy[/name_f]) nickname it’s quirky.
[name_f]Amity[/name_f] is one of my favorite virtue names. I’ve liked it for about 13 years now.
Oh, sorry…nicknames. I knew I was forgetting to mention something: People often bring up “[name_f]Amy[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Ammy[/name_f]” or something as nn possibilities…which, sure, I suppose those could be usable nicknames, but not anything I’ve ever been called. Usually it is just “Am” or “Ammo” (DH loves to name his videogame characters–usually mages–Ammo). Or Spam because my friends/family/I like to be silly. “[name_f]Amy[/name_f]” really is quite different from “[name_f]Amity[/name_f]”
Well put, [name_u]Haley[/name_u]! I agree it shouldn’t stop you. [name_f]Amity[/name_f] is adorable.
Thank you! Haha, I feel like taking a dramatic bow now
I personally don’t like virtue names, but I am relatively young and still connect it to Amityville Horror. Also, there is a student at my school named [name_f]Amity[/name_f] that had some mental health issues, so that really puts me off of this name.
I don’t think that [name_f]Amity[/name_f] is a bad name, but i happen to live in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] near Amityville so i would not personally use it.
