Amusing Discovery: Food-Insipred Baby Names

>Food-Inspired [name]Baby[/name] Names are booming. Edible names are super hot. Among the most popular, according to babycenter.com: [name]Honey[/name] (up more than 100 percent last year) and [name]Clementine[/name] (up 25 percent). As usual, celebrities are leading the way: [name]Drew[/name] Barrymore and [name]Jason[/name] Bateman both recently named their babies after food ([name]Olive[/name] and [name]Maple[/name], respectively). “Children and food are two things people love, so it makes sense,” says [name]Linda[/name] [name]Murray[/name], a senior vice president at the website. "I haven’t met a Cupcake yet, but I’m expecting to soon.<

Who knew!? lol.

I was amused to stumble across this new revelation last night while perusing my new Food Network Magazine (May 2013). Seriously that’s all it said -> yet I still expect to see a spike in food related names being used by major (and want-to-be) foodies after this. (The article was accompanied by a picture - which was larger than the article - of bibs with the names [name]Olive[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Sage[/name], [name]Apple[/name] and [name]Maple[/name]).

I know this isn’t news to us but I thought it was fun to see that even food magazines are reporting on naming trends.

Interesting, thanks for sharing!

I just named my daughter [name]Maple[/name]. She’s three weeks old. I’ve had her name picked out for over a year now. Bummer, I hope it doesn’t take of too much!

I’ve seen [name]Plum[/name] mentioned a bunch of times over the past year or so. I also love [name]Marjolaine[/name] (French fr marjoram) and [name]Rosemary[/name], and I’ve seen [name]Saffron[/name] before, too. I can see this theme taking off. It’s a natural progression from flower names… these plant-food names are an extension of botanical names, so it makes sense. Interesting!

[name]How[/name] funny, I’d consider [name]Maple[/name] a nature name far more than a food name. I guess you eat maple syrup, but I connect it far more to the tree.

I like the name [name]Olive[/name] and I think [name]Sage[/name] is a great mn. Not so wild about [name]Clementine[/name] or [name]Honey[/name]. And honestly I think [name]Apple[/name] is rather silly.

I actually really like Caraway and Coriander - I believe both of the seeds are eaten, but again I’d consider them nature names more than anything else.

I like Caraway too, for a boy or girl. [name]Honey[/name] is sweet as a mn.
I would totally like [name]Plum[/name] for another girl but having [name]Maple[/name] and [name]Plum[/name] would be a bit much, I’m afraid.

I have always secretly liked [name]Pepper[/name]! Sounds so spunky and reminds me of the girl in the [name]Annie[/name] movie (my favorite as a kid). [name]Just[/name] not sure I can have a [name]Maple[/name] and a [name]Pepper[/name]. I love [name]Sage[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Saffron[/name] too.

I know there’s an [name]Olive[/name] [name]Doyle[/name] in the Disney [name]Channel[/name] show A.N.T Farm but there’s also an [name]Olive[/name] Oyl from Popye. As for the name [name]Pepper[/name], I think of [name]Gwyneth[/name] Paltrow’s character in the Iron [name]Man[/name] movies, and there was a show called [name]Pepper[/name] [name]Ann[/name].

I love [name]Sage[/name], [name]Thyme[/name], [name]Sorrel[/name] and [name]Clove[/name]. Carob is cute too

I met a [name]Pepper[/name] once. Of course she was a peppy redhead with a face full of freckles

I like the names of spices and herbs.
[name]Cinnamon[/name]
[name]Sage[/name] Cilantro
[name]Clove[/name]
[name]Thyme[/name]
[name]Anise[/name]
Chicory
Chive
[name]Sorrel[/name]
[name]Fennel[/name]
Paprika
[name]Tarragon[/name]
Vanilla
They all sound like they could be names to me. Although these children wouldn’t have much history behind their names, they would have those scents! I love the scent of [name]Basil[/name], but it makes and awful name.

I wouldn’t think of [name]Maple[/name] for being food related particularly. No more than I think of [name]Rose[/name] as a food name because I eat rosehip jelly or sugar roses on cakes.

But anyway, I like [name]Saffron[/name], [name]Cicely[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], and, yes [name]Maple[/name] for girls. I never thought of [name]Hazel[/name] as a food name but I guess [name]Hazel[/name] counts by the same logic as [name]Maple[/name]? And [name]Gage[/name] and [name]Basil[/name] for boys.

I like [name]Pepper[/name] as a NN for [name]Penelope[/name] (which I’ve heard) but I wouldn’t use it alone.

[name]Rimona[/name] is Hebrew for ‘pomegranate’ and the only fruit name for girls I like that I can think of at the moment aside from [name]Mirabelle[/name], and really I much prefer the un-fruit-related [name]Mirabel[/name].

I remember liking [name]Plum[/name] years ago, and thinking it was way better than [name]Apple[/name].

I hear [name]Prune[/name] is quite popular in [name]France[/name].

I’m surprised no one’s used [name]Sugar[/name] yet. It’s no sweeter than [name]Honey[/name]. And there’s the [name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Monroe[/name] character from Some Like It Hot backing it up and giving it that old Hollywood edge.

I always thought [name]Peach[/name] was a cute fruit name. Cuter than [name]Apple[/name] for sure.

I remember Punky [name]Brewster[/name]'s BFF was called [name]Cherry[/name]. Uhhh…

I wonder how far this will go. In 10 years will there be star babies called Bacon and Biscuit?

I have a secret love for [name]Fig[/name] (and [name]Pomeline[/name], but that isn’t the name of an actual food…)
Also, [name]Ambrosia[/name] is a lovely name - although it’s a popular brand of custard over here…
