I think [name]Amy[/name] would be so refreshing on a baby, and I have it on my own list as a name that my husband suggested. (He has great taste.) I recommend the double-barrel name [name]Amy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name]. Or just a first name/middle name combo of [name]Amy[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. The repeating long A sound makes it spunky and playful, and the use of [name]Jane[/name] makes it sound more timeless.
I thought about [name]Amy[/name] [name]Jane[/name], but worried about the long A sounds “smashing” together… Also thought of [name]Amy[/name] [name]Olivia[/name], but not sure that has quite the classic feel I am looking for.
I don’t find [name]Amy[/name] dated at all. I know a precious little girl named [name]Amy[/name] and every time I see the name I think of her. She’s only 3 so I think it works on a baby but will age well.
[name]Amy[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is just delicious.
I don’t think it’s dated. I have a little girl called [name]Amy[/name]. Her name is [name]Amy[/name]-[name]Louise[/name]. She’s 18 months old. I also know a [name]Amie[/name] [name]Jane[/name] who is nearly 3.
I’m not a big fan of [name]Amy[/name], and I do consider it pretty dated. To me it feels like a very Ho-Hum name. Perhaps a more unusual middle name could give it an interest factor.
Thanks for all the input!! It has been an interesting discussion [name]Alas[/name] hubby pulled it off the table (and pretty quickly after I mentioned it)… my [name]SIL[/name] is named Amisue…and goes by “[name]Ami[/name]”, and well, sadly let’s just say, she is not his favorite person. I don’t see the big deal; as her name is really not [name]Amy[/name], but then again I am much more forgiving with associations when it comes to names I like then he is… SO… looks like we are back to [name]Anna[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]…
I would say…it’s not dated or classic. [name]Sarah[/name] is a little more classic. Maybe this is more like [name]Rachel[/name]? It has that 80’s , 90’s vibe, but it is also an charmingly vintage name with a lot of great history. A little [name]Amy[/name] coming up today would share her name with a lot of the mom set, but it’s like meeting a late 20’s/early 30’s [name]Joan[/name] or [name]Lorraine[/name]…if it’s a good solid name I think it’s OK. But I forgive the dated thing pretty easily. I even see the naturey charm of [name]Heather[/name], [name]Amber[/name], [name]Dawn[/name] & [name]Robin[/name]…
Friends named a baby (born in 2012) [name]Amy[/name]. My first reaction was “wow… how dated!” but like many opinionated topics, seeing little [name]Amy[/name] and knowing her family, it seems to work really well. A name being dated is all about the context I think.
I think [name]Amy[/name] works with your sibset, but I see your DH does not like it so it’s a moot point. I wanted to weigh in though.
I find it be both classic AND dated. By that I mean it is classic in the sense that it’s been around for a long time but it still feels dated in the because it feels like an 80’s name. Keyword being “feels”, because I know it is in fact not an 80’s name. ([name]Just[/name] looked it up on the SSA site and turns out it is actually a 70’s name as it peaked then and was in the top 10, almost the top 5, for over a decade). It is a sweet name, but its just lacking something.
