I’ve been toying with the idea of adding the name [name]Amy[/name] to my list. It just sounds very sweet and pleasant to me - probably why it was so popular in the seventies. But has it become too dull because of its popularity in the past? I brought up the name in conversation once and was told that it was “a nothing name”, which I don’t particularly like the sound of.
As far as alternatives/nn routes go, I don’t like [name]Amity[/name] and have bad associations with [name]Amelia[/name], and aside from that I can’t think of anything else. Is [name]Andromeda[/name] too much of a stretch? If I ever used [name]Amy[/name] on its own I would probably go for a really interesting mn - [name]Amy[/name] [name]Indigo[/name], [name]Amy[/name] [name]Eliska[/name], or even [name]Amy[/name] [name]Aurelia[/name].
I know a toddler [name]Amy[/name], a teenage [name]Amy[/name], and a very friend [name]Amy[/name]. The little girl has chubby cheeks and bright blue eyes and is absolutely beautiful The other two are both incredibly sweet and selfless and wonderful people. I say all of this because that is the image I have of [name]Amy[/name]. I agree with you. It is sweet and pleasant. I think in today’s world of very frilly girly names and/ or trendy creative spellings, an [name]Amy[/name] would be refreshing. Her name would stand out because of it’s simple beauty. I like it very much.
[name]Amy[/name] [name]Eliska[/name] would give the sweet [name]Amy[/name] a spunky edge. That would be my choice m
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Amy[/name], but I’ve had similar reactions. My best friend in particular doesn’t like it at all. We are still considering it if there is a girl #3, but a childhood friend of mine just named his daughter [name]Amy[/name] [name]Mae[/name], my favorite combo. Ack! I view [name]Amy[/name] as an older classic name, and I would [name]LOVE[/name] to see it on a baby. I don’t care for [name]Amity[/name] either. [name]Andromeda[/name] is a lot of name, but I think [name]Amy[/name] could work as a nickname. [name]Amy[/name] [name]Indigo[/name] is my favorite of the combos you listed.
Yes! [name]Amy[/name] is a great choice. I love it for the same reasons as the other posters. [name]Amy[/name] just looks and sounds so friendly to me. I knew a lot of [name]Amy[/name]'s growing up and they were all nice, which is probably why I like the name so much. The popularity has died down now, so an [name]Amy[/name] would likely be the only one in her class. I think it’s a refreshing choice. I like all of your combinations.
I love-love-love [name]Amy[/name]! It is so simple and sweet but no way plain. It was the most popular in the 70-s but it does not sound like a dated name to me at all. It’s more of a classic name waiting for a popular wave. Plus, all Amys I know are very sweet and loyal girls. They make me like it even more and respesent it well - friendly, feminine but not snobby. And [name]Amy[/name] Winehouse, not touching her personal life, was a fantastic singer so the name has quite artistic image for me as well.
On the other hand, [name]Andromeda[/name] for a real girl is quiet clunky. There are a lot of Greek names I love but not [name]Andromeda[/name]. I don’t think [name]Amy[/name] is a lot of stretch here though. Personally, I like [name]Amity[/name] but if neither it nor [name]Amelia[/name] is your cup of tea, there are always [name]Amaliya[/name]/[name]Amalia[/name], [name]Amabelle[/name] and [name]Amory[/name].
But I would use just [name]Amy[/name]. Combined with something more frilly or unusual it will make a great name. I like [name]Amy[/name] [name]Eliska[/name] from your list and I actually know a couple going to use [name]Amy[/name] [name]Virginia[/name]. I think it’s lovely too.
[name]Amy[/name] is sunshine and daisies, walking barefoot through dewy grass on a summer morning. I agree; it has a bright, simple beauty. I would love to meet a baby [name]Amy[/name]. It, also, makes me think of the youngest sister in [name]Louisa[/name] [name]May[/name] [name]Alcott[/name]'s [name]Little[/name] Women.
Wow! So happy about the good feedback. You’ve all expressed exactly my thoughts on the name, which is awesome.
@mclevine - [name]Amalia[/name] is nice, but not for me, same with [name]Amabel[/name], and while I like [name]Amory[/name] I don’t think I’d want a nn with it. Any other suggestions for full names, from anyone, would be nice if you’ve got them.
I like [name]Amy[/name]. I don’t think I would use it, but I like it just fine. I think I read someone refer to it as a “simple beauty” when I was skimming the rest of the thread, and that describes it perfectly. It’s simple, but in a way that only adds to its overall beauty.
[name]How[/name] about [name]Amanda[/name]? That’s my name and people have suggested calling me [name]Amy[/name] before.
note: That being said, I quite like [name]Amy[/name] by itself! I don’t think you need a full name for it. But whatever you prefer!
[name]Amy[/name] gets a thumbs-up from me! Although it had a spike around the 1970s, I think it’s classic enough to be used at anytime (and is on the list of names I’d consider for a DD).
I’ve loved the name [name]Amy[/name] ever since I picked up [name]Little[/name] Women 17 years ago at age 11. It does feel a little 70s, but I agree that it would be refreshing amidst an ocean of little girls named [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Haylee[/name].
