I’d like to preface this post by saying that I know popularity isn’t everything, BUT…
I’ve absolutely loved the name [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] for a long time. Unfortunately, so does almost everybody else (in the UK at least)! It was #8 in 2014 and #7 in 2013, both with well over 4000 births. I’m getting much better at not caring about popularity, but that’s still far too popular for me to feel OK with 
Any suggestions for an alternative? Anything with a similar sound, shape or “feel”?

Unfortunately, some of those are out for various reasons - name of close friend/relative, too close to DD’s name, also too popular… But lots are usable and exactly my style, so thank you!

This might be too close in sound to [name_f]Juno[/name_f], but it’s even closer in sound to [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], so maybe you’ll dig it: [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]. [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] moves on and off our list for our little one due in [name_f]September[/name_f], and most of the time it’s disqualified for being too close to our pup’s name, [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u], which at first I was unsure about and have since fallen absolutely in love with to the point of wishing we’d saved it for a boy. [name_m]Long[/name_m] story short, [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]/[name_m]Oskar[/name_m] obviously share the first syllable and the r sound, but [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] is not on the UK Top 100. (And I hope it’s not a turn-off for an otherwise awesome name if a stranger halfway across the world used it for her dog!)
I keep trying to convince [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] lovers to use [name_m]Osias[/name_m] (or [name_m]Ozias[/name_m]) instead. Or [name_m]Osiris[/name_m]. Or even just [name_m]Oz[/name_m]
^^agreed. If the nickname [name_m]Ozzie[/name_m]/[name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] interests you, then [name_m]Ozias[/name_m]/[name_m]Osias[/name_m] would be awesome. Different feel than [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] though.
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] would definitely fit in with the vibe of a lot of these names. And maybe [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]… [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]… ?
@seedsandstones Thank you, I do like [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]. I probably wouldn’t with [name_f]Juno[/name_f] (at least not for the next child), but your pup has an awesome name 
[name_f]Pam[/name_f], I do like [name_m]Ozias[/name_m], and I know it’s the logical alternative to [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], but something about it just doesn’t click for me. I do love [name_m]Oz[/name_m] on its own though… I’ll have to think about whether I’m brave enough to go there.
