An -er first name with an -er last name?

I like a few -er names like [name]Piper[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Clover[/name], but we have a two syllable last name that ends with -er. Is this a no-no? What about a three syllable -er name, like [name]Juniper[/name]? Does that make a difference? Am I over-thinking this? I do that.

I think having 3 syllables kind of masks the fact that they have the same ending. If the vowels at the beginning of the names are different then I don’t think it would be a big deal (example - [name]Harper[/name] Miser would be okay but [name]Piper[/name] Miser would sound odd since they have the same vowel sounds).

I have the same issue. I like several -er names but we have a 3 syllable last name that ends in -er and i feel that they just don’t work. In your case with only a 2 syllable last name I think it could work but I think it sounds better to have an -er name that has 3 syllables. If you do go with a 2 syllable name I agree with @pinkpeonies about them not starting with the same vowel sound.

I have an [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Miller[/name], and the 3-2 seems to work just fine, in my opinion.
We’re considering 2 syllable -er for our second child. I’m not too concerned about the phonetics of it. I’m just not sure if two siblings with the -er names is too much. What do you think?

P.S. I love the name [name]Clover[/name]… I would have loved to use it in the future, but I think we ruled it out for subsequent children when we named our son [name]Oliver[/name].

That is tricky and had the same experience myself. I think that sometimes you can get away with it but it depends on the combo.

A three syllable -er name, such as [name]Juniper[/name], would sound fine. A two syllable name might sound off.

I like [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Piper[/name]!

I would avoid any names regardless of number of syllables that end in “er”. [name]Piper[/name] [name]Carter[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Carter[/name] both don’t sound right.

I have an 3 syllable -er ending last name and I avoid all -er ending names, because to me they all sound jumbly together.

I think depends on the letter just before the “er” part. [name]Piper[/name] [name]Harper[/name], for example, sounds terrible. [name]Piper[/name] [name]Hunter[/name] sounds less bad, but I still don’t think it’s great. -er endings feel a bit like -son endings to me… something like [name]Emerson[/name] [name]Grayson[/name] or [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] just seems way too redundant to me, sorry. If I knew the ln I might be able to say more definitively, but right now I’m going with no, sorry. I do think [name]Juniper[/name] sounds better than something like [name]Piper[/name] or [name]Harper[/name] that’s only two syllables.

Good luck!

I’m having this same dilemma right now. [name]One[/name] of my favorite names is [name]Oliver[/name], but our last name is two syllables, ending in -ter (like [name]Leicester[/name]).
Does [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Leicester[/name] sound strange?
