Our daughter, [name]Alice[/name] [name]Harper[/name] [name]Bennett[/name], narrowly avoided being a [name]Christmas[/name] baby by arriving on [name]December[/name] 27 after 22 hours of labor. She is named primarily for [name]Alice[/name] [name]Paul[/name] - 2nd wave feminist suffragette who devoted her life to getting women the vote, and to women’s rights in general - though the name [name]Alice[/name] has a great literary pedigree, as well, when you consider writers like [name]Alice[/name] [name]Walker[/name] and character’s like [name]Alice[/name] in Wonderland. Her middle name is in honor of [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name]; I love ‘to Kill a Mockingbird’, and find it amazing that a white woman raised in the mid-1900s South, during the [name]Jim[/name] [name]Crow[/name] era, had the courage to write a book that has so much sympathy for, and a sense of common humanity with, southern African Americans. In all, I feel like [name]Alice[/name] [name]Harper[/name] has real gravitas to it, and I hope my daughter will take herself seriously and have plenty of the self-respect and confidence it takes to make her dreams come true.
A huge congrats to you and your family on the safe arrival of [name]Alice[/name] [name]Harper[/name] [name]Bennett[/name]. I’m sure she’ll be most appreciative when she grows up in regards to the sentiment behind your wonderful choices. [name]May[/name] she continue the fight for equality for all people!
When I read the surname, I thought of the [name]Bennet[/name] family in Pride and Prejudice (one of my favorite books). [name]Just[/name] wanted to throw that out there since you were mentioning “literary pedigree”. Overall, a beautiful name
Congratulations on your daughter! [name]Alice[/name] [name]Harper[/name] [name]Bennett[/name] is just darling, and I’m sure she’ll appreciate the history and significance behind her name as she gets older!
Good luck to your family!
Congratulations and I am sure that she will appreciate having such an intelligent, thoughtful mother. Her name is lovely and I like the strength of the name as well as the sentiments you expressed.
rollo
Congratulations! Your daughter is lucky to have such a lovely, well-thought name.
What a beautiful and strong name for I’m sure, an equally beautiful and strong daughter!
I loooove the name! Congrats!
[name]Love[/name] [name]Alice[/name] [name]Harper[/name]. Go feminist pride! My future daughters names are going to have some of that too LOL
I love [name]Alice[/name] so much. Good job.
Interestingly, I love [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name]'s real name [name]Nelle[/name] too much to ever consider [name]Harper[/name]. [name]Nelle[/name] is also what her family and friends called her.
Awesome! I love seeing some more Feminist representation here!
As a fellow mom to a december 2011 baby, congrats! I love [name]Alice[/name] for all of the literary-street-cred reasons you cite. And it’s just a lovely name! My daughter probably would have been [name]Alice[/name] if it weren’t way too close to her father’s name.
Congratulations. This is a beautiful name. My grandmother was named at brith [name]Alice[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Harper[/name] after she was married her last name was changed to [name]Austin[/name]. So you can understand why I truly love the name you’ve picked. Great job! It’s a wonderful name with a wonderful history.
