I’m currently at the editing stage of a book I’ve been writing for the last two years, and I’m wanting to change some of my characters’ names.
I’ve based two of my characters on my best friends, [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and named them - you guessed it - [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. This was fine when the characters’ names were just standing in for something else to carry the plot forward, but now that most of the writing is finished and I’ve been rereading the words on the page, these names don’t seem to fit in with the other names in the world.
I’m writing a futuristic fantasy book, and the other characters are all obscurely named (for reference, some of my other main characters are called Gytha, [name_f]Antheia[/name_f], [name_f]Genevra[/name_f], [name_m]Farryn[/name_m], [name_u]Darian[/name_u], and Emric).
While it’s very important to me that my friends are honoured, the names don’t have to be variants of - or even related to - their own. I’ve decided to replace [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] with [name_f]Isaline[/name_f], but I am stuck on what to rename [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
As long as the name starts with an O or an L (I call my friend [name_f]Liv[/name_f] sometimes, so that initial works too) or bears some etymological relation, that’s fine.
So, Berries, what should I call a sister for [name_f]Isaline[/name_f], in order to honour someone called [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]/[name_f]Livia[/name_f]?
Thanks in advance.
