Ananda?

Thoughts on [name_f]Ananda[/name_f]?

I have a friend with this name, actually! I think it’s quite pretty, and I just adore the meaning behind it. The only thing is that I think it can quite frequently be confused with the more popular [name_f]Amanda[/name_f].

I agree ^

I clicked on this because I was so confused since I don’t see [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] mentioned very much on here, but then realized it was a different name.

It’s also very similar in sound to [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]. She would probably have to correct every single person she met.

“My name is [name_f]Ananda[/name_f],”
“Oh nice to meet you [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] I’m [name_m]Jim[/name_m],” “Actually, it’s [name_f]Ananda[/name_f],”
“Oh, like an N sound? [name_f]Ananda[/name_f]?”
“Yes.” (And repeat every time she meets someone new)

This is of course barring a few teachers or anyone else who read her name on paper first (and realizes it doesn’t have an M). But then she would get, “hey how do you pronounce your name? Is it A-non-da, A-nan-da…?” (Cue sighing and head holding from your daughter).

There are lots of really pretty, unusual names to choose from. While [name_f]Ananda[/name_f] isn’t ugly, it seems like it would be an annoyance when I really think about it. I would just keep that in mind. Sorry for the weirdly detailed/long post.

It’s not bad, but I agree with pp’s that it would be confused for [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] a lot. Could be a creative way to get to the nickname [name_f]Annie[/name_f].

I have never heard it before and whilst I don’t hate it, I think it could be quite difficult to wear, mainly for the practical issues arising from the similarity to [name_f]Amanda[/name_f].
I’ve just looked it up, and it does have a really sweet meaning-"[name_u]Bliss[/name_u]"in Sanskrit. I think if you can get past the issues attached to it than it could be a good name!
Good luck deciding!

I quite like it, although I understand that it would be mistaken for [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] a lot of the time. [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ana[/name_f] would be easy nicknames if that happened too much.

I definitely agree that it could be confused for [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]. There’s only one letter difference and an n and an m could look similar written down. It does look pretty~ Could be a cool, edgy mn.

Much fresher than [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]

I stumble over saying it because of the an, an repeating. If I didn’t know any better, I’d also think it was a typo of [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]. I’m not a fan.

Thanks for the thoughts dolls.

I think most people’s minds are going to autocorrect to [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]. It took me a moment to realize the name was [name_f]Ananda[/name_f].

I would assume it was a typo for [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]. It also makes me think of an anaconda.
