How do we feel about the name Ananiah for a boy?
Benaniah is super sweet! Ananiah is in my family tree and my husband happens to like it. I was curious what other peoples opinions might be if we did use it. We will probably use it as a middle name if we have another boy someday.
it’s not really rocking my boat
all the anania- names really just make me think of pineapple. the ana- probably doesn’t help the case for the boy name.
but, how do you feel about hanneniah?
probably not much better than ana- with the hannah
, but you can play around with it.
I like Ananiah but I prefer [name_m]Hananiah[/name_m] and [name_m]Ananias[/name_m]
I really dislike it. First, it sounds like a girl’s name. Second, it’s not easy to spell or say. Third, I don’t even like it for a girl.
As a middle name, I think it’s kind of cool and fun to say
I love the honesty
A bit too repetitive, but I like other -iah names, especially [name_u]Azariah[/name_u]!
Too much like [name_m]Ananias[/name_m], who historically was killed for lying.
But if you want a name no one else is going to choose, you might have found it!
I prefer [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] but Ananiah is actually a good middle name material, it’s kind of normal nowdays to have long names ending with a for boys - Jiraya , [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] , [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] etc so why should this be any different?
I definitely prefer [name_m]Hananiah[/name_m] or [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] (which, it may be noted, there is also a good namesake in the Bible who wasn’t killed for lying); [name_m]Hananiah[/name_m] is my favorite, but Ananiah could be special because it’s a family name. I’m team [name_m]Hananiah[/name_m] personally, though.
Good luck!
I actually have a sister named [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] so I don’t think [name_m]Hananiah[/name_m] would work. [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] is nice but I definitely don’t connect to it like Ananiah. I get the feeling that if we use it for a first name we better really love it because no one else will
I did a quick search and it appears that Ananiah did show up in several places, it was a place name in [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] as well as one of the priests who helped rebuild the walls of [name_u]Jerusalem[/name_u] with Nehemiah… I just think most people would not know about him because he’s much lesser known than [name_m]Hananiah[/name_m] (one of Daniel’s friends), [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] (the guy who healed Paul’s blindness/Sapphira’s husband who was struck down for being deceptive about how much he gave to the church), etc. I’ve long thought that [name_m]Hananiah[/name_m] had a really cool sound, and I think Ananiah is a pretty cool family name! I do like [name_m]Hananiah[/name_m] more but I don’t know that I actively DISLIKE Ananiah. [name_m]Just[/name_m] really threw me off at first lol. Looks sort of incomplete, but the [name_f]Anna[/name_f] beginning doesn’t put me off and in general I find it to be quite likable.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] if you don’t love it enough up front, I do think it’d be a nice middle. Something like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] Ananiah or [name_u]Beau[/name_u] Ananiah would be pretty cool. Obscure and different Bible names like [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_u]Nehemiah[/name_u], [name_u]Aquila[/name_u], [name_m]Barzillai[/name_m], and Ananiah are my very favorite name group for boys… so I’m pulling for Ananiah for you haha. I just find [name_m]Hananiah[/name_m] a bit more to my taste, probably because of the Bible character, but also because of the significance of [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] in my own family.
Good luck!
