Anastasia?

I’ve really been liking [name]Anastasia[/name] lately. It’s pretty and super girly, but I’m not sure I can get past the 50 Shades of [name]Grey[/name] relation. I certainly wouldn’t want anyone associating my child with book smut. [name]Do[/name] you think people would associate the name with the book? I think it might only get worse if they make it into a movie. I have no problem with the princess/Disney association. Ugh! Stupid book.

I think 50 Shades of [name]Grey[/name] will just be a fad. Think about it, people are still using [name]Isabella[/name], every time you hear [name]Isabella[/name] do you think of Twilight? I think [name]Anastasia[/name] is a beautiful name, and is totally usable  If you love it, use it.

I really love the name [name]Anastasia[/name]. I don’t even know anyone who has read those books. I think you should definitely go for it. It’s a beautiful name with a rich past to go with it. Best of luck!

I think [name]Anastasia[/name] is beautiful. I had the same problem, I like the name [name]William[/name] [name]Gray[/name] and I wouldn’t want people to associate it with 50 shades. However the general consensus was most people wouldn’t associate a name like [name]Anastasia[/name] or [name]Gray[/name] with 50 shades. And I agree with the previous poster, it is just a fad.

I agree as well. 50 shades is a trend and it too shall pass. When I hear it I do think more along the lines of the [name]Princess[/name] first. It is a gorgeous name!

My only concern will be since it is a fad, will there be a surge in popularity and have lots of little [name]Anastasia[/name]'s in her class from the 50 shades baby boom. Haha.

It may be a pretty name, but I think it ought to stay in the fictional world. My bro-in-law & his wife had a girl on 12/29. They didn’t announce the name for like 3 days. Supposedly because they didn’t have a name picked yet. He likes it because he wanted a princess name. She doesn’t want to stick with it because she doesn’t like [name]Anna[/name] for the likely nickname that would come up. I don’t know how serious she is about getting the name changed before the legal documents are processed, but I’m lobbying that she change it. I am not familiar with 50 Shades of [name]Grey[/name] myself, have [name]ZERO[/name] desire to ever read it - but I don’t like the historical negativity of the name. The Disney movie purposely altered the story of [name]Anastasia[/name]. [name]Anastasia[/name] had a terrible death. And, I am partial to short easy to spell names.

Here’s the real story on [name]Anastasia[/name] - The Real Tragedy Behind 'Anastasia'

If I ever met a little [name]Anastasia[/name], I would honestly automatically think of the Disney movie over 50 Shades, but then I’ve never read any of the books.
If you really like it though, it doesn’t matter. I totally agree with gabbygrace, it’s a fad that will pass and people still use [name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Bella[/name] without a second thought. [name]Edward[/name] is my top boy’s name and [name]Rosalie[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] are both in my top 5 for girl’s and I would totally use them for siblings despite the fact that they’re all Twilight characters.

[name]Anastasia[/name] is a very, very venerable old name. It’s been given in the [name]Christian[/name] world since the first century, to commemorate the Resurrection of [name]Christ[/name] ([name]Anastasia[/name] = resurrection in Greek). The male form, [name]Anastasios[/name], is equally commonly given in Greece.

It far transcends the Romanov princess (there are >50 St Anastasias). It’s one of the most common names in [name]Russia[/name] and Greece for girls. And it definitely, definitely will outlive and not be sullied by poorly written fanfic tripe like 50 Shades.

I think it’s lovely, and personally know many Anastasias between the age of 20 and 35. It wears well in the US and is not thought of as princess-y.

I think you’ll be fine if its the name that you love.

People are using [name]Gray[/name] all over the place, why not [name]Anastasia[/name]? It has plenty of history to it, I don’t think the books are the only association people have. [name]Even[/name] if the most recent Romanov died a horrible death, people still think “princess” rather than “execution” when they hear it.

I knew a [name]Stacie[/name] in high school who’s full name was [name]Anastasia[/name]. She was super sporty and didn’t really like her frilly name.
I think it’s lovely, but too much on the princess side for my taste. Solid name though, and I didn’t even know there was anyone in that [name]Gray[/name] book with the name, so I doubt people will connect them.

I have the same problem with the name. I can’t tell you not to let it bother ou, because it bothers me as well. Such as a shame, as it’s a lovely name with a ton of rich history and an intriguing meaning.

I love [name]Anastasia[/name]. I did not know there was an [name]Anastasia[/name] in 50 Shades of [name]Grey[/name]. There are plenty of other (and much better) associations with the name that it should not be a problem.
