[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
I am considering naming my babygirl [name_f]Anastasiya[/name_f], (after my Kazakstani grandmother,) but I am starting to doubt that it will be a great name to go by in western europe. [name_m]Will[/name_m] people be able to pronunce it? Is she going to get bullied for having an “exotic” name? I live in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u], and here I’ve never met anyone called [name_f]Anastasiya[/name_f].
I don’t think she will get bullied but there may be pronounciation issues so I will suggest using [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
You shouldn’t have any issues. It’s a familiar name in Western countries (and pretty popular in some). If anything you’ll have to deal with people spelling it wrong or maybe pronouncing it incorrectly depending on how you say it, but everyone should recognize it. I really love [name_f]Anastasiya[/name_f]/[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] by the way!
I would personally change it to [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], since that’s the more common spelling in Western Europe. But if your grandmother’s spelling is important to you, go for it! It’s a lovely name and perfectly easy to pronounce :).
She might have to correct some people but it’s perfectly usable.
I think it works, definitely! She could always go by the nickname [name_f]Ana[/name_f], if that makes it easier for you/her.
Thank you all! Weve decided that we are going to name her after my gran
I know a little girl with that name in the U.S. and as far as I can tell, it is going fine. She always goes by the full name. I don’t think name-bullying is as common as it once was, and anyway, this name is beautiful.
I’ll opt for [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] personally, but [name_f]Anastasiya[/name_f] is lovely too and no, I don’t think there’ll be an issue.
