We had baby #1 in [name_f]October[/name_f] 2014 and called him [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_m]Dennis[/name_m] ([name_m]Dennis[/name_m] is a family name).
We are TTC #2 now after a miscarriage in [name_u]Jan[/name_u] and I’m trying to distract myself with names again. We watched war and peace the other day and really liked the name [name_m]Anatole[/name_m].
Is it too uncommon?
We call [name_m]Casper[/name_m] ‘[name_m]Cap[/name_m]’ and would call [name_m]Anatole[/name_m] ‘Tol’ I think.
Other thoughts were [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] and [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u].
(I loved C names the first time - and still for girls but seems to be only A’s for boys this time!
Also is it an issue that the middle name would definitely be [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] and this can sometimes be shortened to ‘Tol’
I would love to use [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] as the first name but our surname is very like [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]!
Hey, @frobskottle
I am loving this post, firstly because Russian was my major and I therefore love that you found the name in “War and [name_u]Peace[/name_u]”. I also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] and want to use it in the middle spot as well, mainly because it doesn’t go with my daughter’s name as a first and anyway I’m not sure I’d dare!
ANYWAY, I really like the name [name_m]Anatole[/name_m]. Obviously, the character himself isn’t great and he comes to a rather sticky end, but the name itself is wonderful. Very underused, distinguished, lovely meaning, easy to pronounce. I think it goes fine with [name_m]Casper[/name_m]; [name_m]Anatole[/name_m] maybe feels a little bit more weighty, a little bit more offbeat and a little bit more exotic than [name_m]Casper[/name_m] to me, but [name_m]Cap[/name_m] and Tol make for adorable brother names. My only slight hang-up would be that I think it’s perhaps a bit of a mouthful with [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] in the middle?
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] [name_f]Katinka[/name_f], thanks for the reply.
Bartholemew is a non changer because it was the church where we got married and my name is the church my parents got married. Really wanted to use it with [name_m]Casper[/name_m] but my husband vetoed it. He now says he doesn’t remember saying that!! Anyway I think whatever we use with it will probably be a mouthful so may just have to ignore that even though I really like names to flow easily
[name_m]Anatole[/name_m] is a common vintage name in [name_f]France[/name_f], so I am obviously used to it. I met several boys called [name_m]Anatole[/name_m].
I like it, it’s a great name!
Go for it
