[name_f]My[/name_f] husbands grandfather was Andrija.
And all the boys born into the family are andrew or have it as a middle name andrew/andrija.
I prefer drew but my husband wont budge on ANDY.
I should add, he was born into this family named andrew as his first name. He was adopted out and his name changed. Now he is back to his natural family so he feels that strong connection name wise.
I like older names like oscar. As our daughter is rosie…
But I’m unsure if [Andrew]) is ok for a baby these days. It’s a kind of in between the times name like [Lynne] or karen. Not old fashioned enough to be trendy and not modern enough to be cool lol I dont know…
Thoughts on a baby in 2021 being named andy/andrew.
If we have a boy, the middle name, or one of the middle names will be [name_m]Robert[/name_m] after my dad. . .
I do think that [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] feels a tiny bit dated (most Andrews I know are in their very late 20s or 30s) but it’s classic enough to still work with [name_f]Rosie[/name_f].
I think it would be fine if you had an [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] and your husband called him [name_u]Andy[/name_u] and you [name_u]Drew[/name_u].
However, if you don’t love [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] as a first name, maybe consider other options with [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] as the middle names. [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m], for example.
I have a young cousin named [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] who goes by [name_u]Andy[/name_u] and I think it’s a nice name. It isn’t exactly fresh, but I don’t think it’s at all in the same category as [name_f]Karen[/name_f] or [name_f]Lynne[/name_f]. [name_u]Andy[/name_u] feels pleasantly familiar and cozy to me, a good match with [name_f]Rosie[/name_f].
I know a little [name_u]Andy[/name_u] and an even littler [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], so both seem perfectly natural to me on a baby! If you’re in the U.S., [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] has never left the top 100, so I’d consider it to be relatively timeless (although it is having a slight dip in popularity right now). I think the bigger concern here is whether you actually love it. If you do, then I think it’s a great choice, clearly with a lot of meaning in your husband’s family! But if you don’t, and that’s part of why it’s not feeling quite right, then maybe there’s no need to force it? If variants are on the table, do you like [name_m]Andres[/name_m] or [name_u]Andre[/name_u]? [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] nn [name_u]Drew[/name_u] also seems like a pretty good compromise if you can get your husband on board. Good luck!
Andrew is a nice name! It’s more of a classic imo, unlike [name_f]Lynne[/name_f] or [name_f]Karen[/name_f] [name_u]Andy[/name_u] feels a bit dated but it also works.
I think [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] is perfectly fine on a modern-day child! To me, [name_u]Andy[/name_u] feels less dated than [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], but the latter definitely works just as well.
You could consider [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] as a middle, [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] nickname [name_u]Drew[/name_u], a variant or diminutive etc. Personally, I love [name_u]Andy[/name_u] with [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]!
How would he feel about another form like [name_u]Anderson[/name_u] or [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] nn [name_u]Andy[/name_u]?
Ah, [name_m]Andrew[/name_m].
I know two Andrews: one is a thirty something man, and the other is a 14 year old boy. They both go by their full name, but I actually really love the nn [name_u]Andy[/name_u].
I honestly really like the name, and I think [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m]’s flow works pretty well. Plus, [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]’s a pretty goshdang cute sibset.
I’ve known a couple of little Andrews so it works for me. You could always call him [name_u]Drew[/name_u] and your husband could call him [name_u]Andy[/name_u]?
I think [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] is a bit dated, but still quite useable. I’m not a huge fan of [name_u]Drew[/name_u], but I think it’s very modern and cool. As for [name_u]Andy[/name_u], I think it is very on trend with the vintage names trend. I think it sounds very fresh, and it actually reminds me of [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]. So all in all, I think all three would work. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_u]Andy[/name_u] (sorry to side with your husband ), but [name_u]Drew[/name_u] is definitely my second choice. While [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] does remind me a bit of 90s names such as [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], it’s perfectly useable.
PS: [name_u]Andy[/name_u] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] is adorable
Andrew is one of my very favorites. It’s such a strong classic name. I think of it as the [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] for girls. A name that ages so well and never goes out of style.
I much prefer the nn [name_u]Drew[/name_u]. Personally I find it modern and more mature sounding than [name_u]Andy[/name_u]. (And my given name is [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] but have always been called [name_f]Andie[/name_f]). However, like others have mentioned [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] + [name_u]Andy[/name_u] is darling.
If we are to ever have a son, we plan to give him the middle name [name_m]Robertson[/name_m] after grandfather named [name_m]Robert[/name_m]. However, grandfather [name_m]Robert[/name_m] actually goes by [name_m]Bob[/name_m] so we have considered naming a son [name_u]Bo[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a couple more name ideas to honor a [name_m]Robert[/name_m].
I’m not really keen either. It feels a bit dated so I can understand your reservations. I also think it seems a bit wrong that he won’t budge? Especially as you have to like the name too. Could [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] be used for the middle and you decide on a first name you BOTH like together?
I completely disagree that [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] is dated. I know more young Andrews (12 and under) and older Andrews (above 50) than ones in their 20s and 30s (in fact, I only know one). It is a classic name like [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], or [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] that works in all eras. I would be surprised if it has ever been out of the top 100 for boys in the US since its arrival. As for nicknames, [name_u]Andy[/name_u] gives me very 1940s and 1950s feels, while [name_u]Drew[/name_u] is straight out of the 80s and 90s.
