We’re now 4 weeks from the due date with boy #2 and hubby and I haven’t seriously considered any names yet. We like one syllable nicknames, simple, strong, and traditional.
Right now the names [name_u]Gus[/name_u], [name_m]Ben[/name_m], and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] keep coming back to me. I think I like all three but have some doubts.
Is [name_m]Angus[/name_m] too weird? I know the association with cattle, but we actually raise angus beef so that could be a good thing. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is too associated with Lonesome [name_u]Dove[/name_u] for me, and seems corny for that reason.
Our last name starts with a B so [name_m]Ben[/name_m] B. might be a little cutesy.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] sounds really strong to me, but even though we are Christians, it might be a little much to have almost ever person in our family have an obviously Biblical name: [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u](which is a form of [name_f]Lois[/name_f], also in the Bible), and [name_u]Jude[/name_u].
[name_m]Angus[/name_m]: I like it, but it is possibly a little close to “anus” for comfort. (I have the same problem with [name_m]Amos[/name_m].) I think you could still use it though. [name_u]August[/name_u] is another option.
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]: I know a lot of Bens my age so it doesn’t feel fresh. It’s also top 10 in the US, but a classic.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]: I don’t think the biblical association is too strong, especially with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], which doesn’t sound biblical to me. It sounds like a serious name to me but I think it is still nice.
[name_m]Angus[/name_m]: I think [name_u]Gus[/name_u] is super cute and goes really well with [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], but I’m not a fan, sorry! It’s not even the beef thing (although I’m a vegetarian, so I may be predisposed to dislike it lol). I just like [name_m]Gustav[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u] much more.
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]: I like it a lot, and have good associations with it, and [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is super cute.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]: I love him a lot (although I prefer [name_m]Judah[/name_m]), but I’m not sure [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is any worse than [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], honestly. Most people don’t automatically associate [name_f]Lois[/name_f] with the Bible (it took some serious reminding to remember that she was [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]'s… grandmother? And even then I’m not too sure that that’s the right relation of [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]‘s.), and I’d never seen [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Lois[/name_f] related. I’m sure they could be, but I think calling [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] a Bible name is a stretch. [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] is classic, and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is a vintage literary gem as well as Biblical, so I wouldn’t think crazy religious family when I met a trio of [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] (honestly, I don’t really include parents’ names with their children, though, as a set).
My vote goes to either [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] or [name_u]Jude[/name_u]–I’m not sure I can decide! I love them both equally. I like [name_m]Judah[/name_m] better than [name_u]Jude[/name_u], but I think I like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] just about equally.
I agree with PP that if I heard a sibset of [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] I wouldn’t assume religious. Both names are pretty on trend with the current naming culture while also being strong classics. I like [name_u]Jude[/name_u], but I immediately think of the Holocaust when I say it out loud.
I think [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] are perfect. [name_m]Ben[/name_m] and [name_m]Benji[/name_m] are super sweet.
