Ann vs Anne as middle name

So we’ve chosen Rory as a first name for our baby girl due in June, but we’re having trouble deciding on the middle name. We choose to use family names as middle names and we have an Ann on my husband’s side and an Anne on my side. So i thought we could honor both grandmothers by using this name, but how do i choose which spelling? Our son’s middle name is after my dad, so should i go with Ann to honor my husband’s side more? Other options are Lynn and Elizabeth, although I’m not as crazy about those. What do y’all think?

  • Rory Ann
  • Rory Anne
  • Rory Lynn
  • Rory Elizabeth

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_u]Anne[/name_u], or [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]

[name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] looks nicest to me - honours both, just is more aesthetically pleasing to me

i quite like rory elizabeth, but don’t use it or rory lynn if you don’t like them as much! stick with your beautiful honor names!

between ann and anne, i like anne best and rory anne has my vote. i like what seawillow said, about anne having both ann and anne in it, but mostly i just prefer the spelling of anne. i say go with whichever you like more! the honor will still be there!

I would just choose the one you prefer the look of. I like [name_f]Ann[/name_f] because it’s fewer letters than [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. Another option is [name_f]Grace[/name_f] since it has the same meaning as [name_u]Anne[/name_u].

I like the spelling of [name_u]Anne[/name_u] more with [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. But it would also be nice to do [name_f]Ann[/name_f] for your husbands side. You can also always just go off of how much the e means to your husband and if it holds any significance. Either way you can’t go wrong.

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote went to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] just because as far as a first middle combo goes it seems to fit the best. [name_f]Ann[/name_f] / [name_u]Anne[/name_u] and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] paired with [name_u]Rory[/name_u] almost feel like I’d expect them to be a hyphenated first with the way they kinda blend together.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Rory[/name_u]!

I only considered [name_f]Ann[/name_f] or [name_u]Anne[/name_u] in my voting since that seems like the clear front runner. I went with [name_u]Anne[/name_u], just because it looks better to me. A 4 letter first name and a 3 letter middle name just didn’t do it for me, [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] seemed more even. Also, for the unisex [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_u]Anne[/name_u] with an e adds a little feminine touch

I actually really like [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], as the balance works so well between the short, spunky first name & the long, classic middle!
If using [name_u]Anne[/name_u], I’d go with the “e” ending, as it looks a bit more “finished” somehow (plus I always tend to have “Anne-spelled-with-an-e” in my mind regarding this name, from the [name_u]Anne[/name_u] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables books!).

Rory Elizabeth Anne flows beautifully (& has a lovely combined meaning)! Unless it seems like the family members you are trying to honor mind… I don’t think it matters whether or not you include the “e”. Personally, I would go with the one you like the look of more

Summary

I’m not sure if you’re an Anne of Green Gables fan but this quote came to mind:
“But if you call me Anne, please call me Anne with an ‘e’.” :sun_with_face::herb:

I would use a version of [name_u]Anne[/name_u] that also honors [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

[name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f].

It could be spelled in many different ways, but it is not [name_f]Ann[/name_f] or [name_u]Anne[/name_u], so you are not choosing one side of the family or the other, you are honoring both……and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

[name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Annelise[/name_f]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Annalise[/name_f]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
