Anna Daisy or Eliza Daisy?

Hi everyone! My apologies for making multiple posts today! I’ve been loving a couple of double-barrel names recently, and I’m curious to know which one you prefer.

Eliza Daisy is a double honor name for my grandma and my mom. My maternal grandmother was such a force of nature. She was a woman of faith and one of the most important women in my life. She has been gone for almost four years now. I have talked with my mom about wanting to honor her with a future daughter’s name. Elizabeth is our shared middle name, and I love that it is a connection I will always have with her. I think shortening Elizabeth to Eliza honors grandma, but still gives my daughter a name that is her own.

What my mom doesn’t know is that I’d also love to honor her with her a name. She really dislikes her full name, but I don’t think she minds Daisy.

The other option is Anna Daisy. I think it is beautiful and soft. The middle name for this one would probably be Elizabeth. That way I could still honor both of them.

I love all of these names individually. I just think putting them together makes them extra special!

Do you prefer Eliza Daisy or Anna Daisy, and why? Does the strong s/z sound in Eliza Daisy make it sound too harsh? What middle name would you choose for that one?

I would love to hear any feedback or suggestions you can offer!

Thank you so much!

It seems to me that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] has much more meaning, and even when you’re thinking of [name_f]Anna[/name_f], you’re still leaning towards those qualities that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has, the connection to your grandma. Besides that reason (which is the strongest reason I’d pick [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] over [name_f]Anna[/name_f] for you), I also think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] has a lot more spunk than [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] does. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] could be a wonderful sibling name, though!

@readingreverie Thank you so much! I agree that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has a little more spunk than [name_f]Anna[/name_f] does, even though I love both names!

I love the meaningfulness of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and I love the sound of it - pretty, zippy, and lovely! [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is lovely too - playful, bright, and sweet.

A couple of things I’d consider:

  • If people were to shorten her name to one half of the double, do you prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]?
  • Practise saying them as full names - while I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], I do wonder if [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] might get called [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] more often?
  • If you were to use [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], could you see yourself using [name_f]Anna[/name_f] for a potential second daughter?
  • What feels more important and - you, your grandma and your daughter sharing the same middle (like a new tradition) or honouring your grandma in the first spot?

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is so beautiful! Between [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is my favorite option. Both are timeless and elegant, but [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] also feels bright, charismatic and poetic. I love that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] would be an honor name with a simple twist, which allows your daughter to have her own name.

@Greyblue Thank you so much! These are great questions! Again, while I I think I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] to [name_f]Anna[/name_f], I love both names. Maybe using [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] means choosing a one-syllable name for the second half of the name. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is still a way to honor these important women. Something like Marigld or [name_f]Goldie[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], or [name_f]Rose[/name_f]? (For context, my grandma’s name was Ma.ry. She loved the color yellow and flowers. So last night, I came up with the idea of using [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] because it includes a variant of her name. I do prefer [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] though!)

I always thought I would name a potential future daughter after her in a very direct and obvious way. I think that [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is an adorable name in addition to being a very direct honor for Ma.ry and Mar.gar.3t. my mom is named for her grandma, but doesn’t have her exact name. So I think [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] works in this situation. i don’t think anyone else in my generation of my family or the one after it is named for my grandmother. And I know no one is named after my mom. However, I also share the middle name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with an aunt I am very close to. So I am realizing that continuing to use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a middle name is still a way to honor my grandma. It would make my aunt happy too!

Thank you again!

:butterfly::white_heart:

How about [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] is a short version of Margarethe/ta and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] after your grandmother. It also is a Tradition tvat yozr grandmother, you and your daughter have the same middle Name.

That way you can still honor both women.

@Estrela Thank you so much! I love all the things you have mentioned about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]! And I agree.
You’ve given me so many beautiful combinations here. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are:

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] (I’ve also thought about [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! I can see [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] as a sister to Eliza.)
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Meredith[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] +
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] only real concern with using [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as a first name rather than a middle or part of a double name is that it shares four of its five letters with my dog’s name, S@die.

Thank you again!

@Anna03 Thank you so much! I absolutely love [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! [name_f]My[/name_f] mom also mentioned once that she thinks that variant of her name is cute! I definitely don’t think she would mind it. She doesn’t say that about every variant of it, so that stands out to me. I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f], but I sometimes talk myself out of using it.

Thank you again for reminding me why I love this name! I have loved the name [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] for a long time, and I think they would be cute together as sisters!

Both Eliza Daisy and Anna Daisy are sweet! Eliza does sound more spunky, but Anna is also such a good name!
Something to keep in mind is that you want any future children to have an equal amount of meaning in their names so maybe using Anna Daisy (with maybe a different middle name to honor your grandma) and saving Eliza/Elizabeth for a future daughter could help with that so you don’t feel that one child has a more meaningful name. If you honored your grandma in more than one child’s name (in different ways, like maybe using your grandmother’s middle name), I think that could be a sweet connection between sisters.

@Maria_Bennett Thank you so much! You make such a good point. I’ve heard of parents and/or children feeling like one name has more meaning than the other after children have been named. I really wouldn’t want any of my children to feel like I didn’t put as much thought into their name as I did their sibling’s.

Thank you again!

This is a lovely idea! [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] would be nice! (I also think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] could work as an honor to your mum if she doesn’t love her own name - it’s a nod to it without being it)

Oh, and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] and/or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_m]Gold[/name_m] would also be very sweet!

Oh and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] / [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would be nice! To keep [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a middle going? Plus sharing initials with your mm and grandma?

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is gorgeous but 5 syllables is a lot to say for a first name, something to keep in mind.

@Greyblue Yes, thank you! I’d love to keep [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] going as a middle name. I absolutely love [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I’m not sure if I can get away with this, but I’d love to use [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. It’s my dad’s nickname for my mom. She has said before that she wishes [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] was her full name. I feel it would still honor my grandma by continuing the use of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a middle name and using her first and middle initials. It feels almost perfect, but I’m not sure if my parents would find it strange or sweet. I think [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is such a sweet name!

[name_f]My[/name_f] other favorites for M. E. Initials:

[name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (the most direct way to honor both my mom and grandma without using both of their names)

[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] (I just love both names, and this uses my grandma’s initials and my mom’s first initial. I also don’t love the nickname [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], so I could call her [name_f]Evie[/name_f] or [name_f]Eve[/name_f] instead. For what it’s worth, I would be fine if she wanted to go by [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] or if people called her that! I would just personally introduce her with her full name at this point.)

Now that I think about it, [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] are also very pretty!

Thank you again!

@aylacoggins Thank you so much, this is such a good point! It is a mouthful! I absolutely should have considered that. Maybe a one-syllable middle would be better? That or just making [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] part of a first-and-middle combination?

Thank you again!

:butterfly::white_heart:

Yea I think doing first and middle or a shorter double barrel would be easier. Honestly it is so so gorgeous though! [name_m]Just[/name_m] practically speaking of course

@aylacoggins I think it’s sometimes hard to remember that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is three syllables because it is only five letters!

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is too Z heavy.

@marysia Thank you so much! This was my main concern with it. And as someone pointed out earlier, it is five syllables for a fist name. That is a mouthful!

Thank you again!

Both are pretty but I like the flow of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] better. In this case, the shared z sound is serving to link the names together and make them flow smoothly as one double barrel unit whereas [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] doesn’t roll off the tongue quite as smoothly which results in a bit of a pause between the two names so it feels less cohesive as a double name.
