[name]Anna[/name] has made our short list. Our last name is [name]Johnson[/name].
While I like [name]Anna[/name], together they just seem plain and very common to me. What do you think? What mn could help this out?
I love [name]Anna[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] together, which honors my grandmother, but DH gets hung up on [name]Cecilia[/name] meaning blind, which bugs me a little too. Our other family option is [name]Jane[/name], but also very plain.
DH won’t go for anything he’d consider a word/place instead of a name (ie [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Winter[/name], [name]Jade[/name], etc as examples)
Personally, I love [name]Anna[/name]. I just think it’s so sweet and pretty. I would pair it with a more extravagant middle name though or use a longer first name ([name]Anneliese[/name], [name]Annabel[/name]) with the nickname [name]Anna[/name] to spice things up a bit.
I like [name]Anna[/name]. The meaning is for your grandma, so I wouldn’t worry about the “blind” meaning for [name]Cecilia[/name]. After my mom passed away I knew I would use one of her names for my daughter. If the meaning wasn’t perfect it wouldn’t matter because my meaning and my daughter’s meaning was after my mom and her grandma; who my kids will never meet :’(. Anyway, I like the combo :)!!!
Btw: I know a 8-year-old with the name, [name]Annalise[/name] and she goes by [name]Anna[/name] 100% of the time. I didn’t know her name was [name]Annalise[/name] for about 2 years… fyi.
I appreciate the suggestions to use a longer version of [name]Anna[/name], but we really prefer just [name]Anna[/name]. I strongly considered [name]Annalie[/name], but DH finally vetoed it, and the others just not what I’m after. Thanks for the input though.
I like [name]Anna[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] a lot, i wouldn’t let the meaning of the name bother you too much. When you meet a girl named [name]Cecilia[/name], is your first reaction “Hmm, she must be blind…”? I sort of doubt it!
I’d recommend [name]Johanna[/name] with the nn [name]Anna[/name] (which connects both [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Anna[/name]), but [name]Johanna[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] is a little much! You could try a double-barrel fn like [name]Anna[/name]-[name]Claire[/name], [name]Anneliese[/name], [name]Anna[/name]-[name]Sophia[/name], etc, although i admit that’s not my usual taste in names.
[name]One[/name] of my closest friends is named [name]Cecilia[/name], and I have always loved her name. I never would have guessed it meant blind. Now that I know, I don’t like it any less; it’s a beautiful name with a long history. I love the name [name]Anna[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name], and think [name]Anna[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] is a beautiful, strong, feminine name. It’s not plain at all.
I love [name]Anna[/name]. It’s a classic for a reason. Granted [name]Anna[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] sounds a tad plain, but then I like plain. You want your doctor, or your defence attorney, to have a name like [name]Anna[/name] [name]Johnson[/name].
I think [name]Anna[/name] is a beautiful name. I do agree with @oddcreature, [name]Anna[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] is plain, a bit too plain for my taste. Also, I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] and if it were me, I would put it in the first spot. I know this isn’t what you were asking for, but I can’t resist: [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] is gorge.
I love [name]Anna[/name], and I don’t think [name]Anna[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] is plain at all. It’s smart, it’s sophisticated, it’s a lawyer or a politician or a doctor or a teacher or a shop owner or a beautician. It’s anything she wants to be, it’s the sort of name that fits a girly girl but also a tomboy at the same time. I’d definitely say go with it.
Not keen on [name]Cecelia[/name], I just keep hearing ‘sissy’, sorry.
[name]Anna[/name] is a beautiful name. And [name]Anna[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] is just gorgeous. I don’t think it’s plain at all. It’s a common double first name in the Spanish speaking world. I say go for it.
I think [name]Anna[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] is beautiful! [name]Anna[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] is a classic combination! If not [name]Cecilia[/name], how about:
Wow what great comments. They do make me appreciate the name [name]Anna[/name] a lot more. I’ll have to see what husband thinks again. We have basically come down to 2 names - [name]Anna[/name] or [name]Hadley[/name]. I know, [name]Hadley[/name] is a love/hate name here on NB, but I fall in the love category. [name]Just[/name] last night he told me since he doesn’t really love any girl names he’d be ok if we went with my favorite, which is [name]Hadley[/name]. I didn’t think he’d ever come around to that! He used to tell me [name]Hadley[/name] was an old man name, and now he says he likes it ok but it’s a non-traditional name which is outside his comfort zone, though he’d be ok with it. He agreed that he liked [name]Anna[/name] but the only thing he didn’t like was that it is a little plain. I’ll share your comments and maybe we will vet both names a little more just to make sure we are satisfied with our final choice. I may need to start a new thread…
I do like the name [name]Anna[/name], however do feel [name]Anna[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] may be to common. I have a unique name and I like that I never met anyone with the same first name. I can’t imagine meeting someone with the same first AND last name, which I feel like might happen with an [name]Anna[/name] [name]Johnson[/name]. It is a nice name though, so if the common part doesn’t bother you, go for it, it’s lovely.
My full name is Annalynne, but I have always gone by [name]Anna[/name]. Personally, I don’t feel that I’ve met too many people name [name]Anna[/name] in my life, or felt like my name was too common.
However, if you feel it is, I think variations like Annalynne, [name]Annabelle[/name], etc. might feel less plain when you say her full name. I sort of always liked having a sort of nickname for my longer name, and that I had the option to use my longer name if I wanted too.
There’s also AnnaSophia, but I feel that’s a little wordy. I think there are tons of names with [name]Anna[/name] in them, but also you could probably just choose a 1 syllable name, tack it on the end, and it wouldn’t seem weird or ‘yoo-neek’ either.
Also I would go with [name]Cecilia[/name], because although name meanings, or connotations may be a big ‘no’, I think no one will care that [name]Cecilia[/name] means blind, but instead they’ll care that you named your daughter after your grandmother.
Exactly. This is one of my biggest concerns. My DH has a very common first name, and I have known more than one person with his exact first and last name, and we’ve both had coworkers with his same name. That’s weird to me, but he says it has never bothered him and it’s his name. I just don’t want to do that to my kids. He says that’s a dumb reason, and more than likely she’ll have a new last name is approx 25 yrs anyway!
