Let’s have a discussion about [name_f]Anna[/name_f]! Opinions and feelings, associations, popularity, wearability, variant forms, double-barrels, you name it. What does it make you think of? [name_m]How[/name_m] would you picture a little girl called [name_f]Anna[/name_f]? Would you use it? Have you used it? Combos? Any other contributions I might have missed. Let’s just talk about [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
I really like [name_f]Anna[/name_f]! It’s simple and pretty, but not boring. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is short and sweet, and very wearable for any kind of girl. It’s not too popular, but it’s well known and traditional. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] also has many variations which I love: [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Anya[/name_f], [name_f]Aine[/name_f], [name_f]Annora[/name_f]. I also like longer versions like [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], or [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. I picture [name_f]Anna[/name_f] either as a quiet little girl who likes to read or an active, athletic girl. I would definitely use it. I don’t have any combos for it on my list, but I do like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Anna[/name_f], but it is a little bit plain for me. I think it could be a nice middle name. It’s a popular name, not extremely popular but it’s well known and I’ve met a few little girls named [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I don’t like double-barreled names, so I wouldn’t do it, but AnnaSophia [name_m]Robb[/name_m] is an example that if you like it, you could. I always pictured little Annas with blonde hair and blue eyes, don’t know why, I just do. Also, really sweet and girly. One association that I have is Frozen, but it’s not my immediate thought, so I wouldn’t worry about it. I think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] suffered way more with the association. So, yes, [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a nice name but I wouldn’t use it.
I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f]! That’s something I would love to use but I worry about it being too “plain.” To me, [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a brunette girl with pearls on. She has her life together and everyone knows it. She’s independent, smart, and sophisticated, but airs on the side of serious. [name_f]Julianna[/name_f] is on my list, nn. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Jules[/name_u]/[name_u]Julie[/name_u].
Middle suggestions:
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Brielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Harper[/name_u]
Sorry, I have to go against the grain here…I think this is one of the most boring names out there. There’s only two letters, it’s always been popular, there’s nothing special or intriguing about the meaning. It’s just a very uninspired choice.
Ooh I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f]! It’s definitely my favourite [name_f]Anna[/name_f] variation. I didn’t used to like it, and it’s not the most exciting name ever, but a character association ([name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_m]Bates[/name_m] née [name_m]Smith[/name_m] from Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u]) completely swayed me. Now [name_f]Anna[/name_f] actually has a personality and image to me, down to earth, sensible, kind, always trying to help, but fun, energetic, fiery and passionate too. I think being a classic, and international as well, it’s easy to imagine quite a wide range of personalities for [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. So simple, but full of possibilities. It has a pretty good meaning, which is something I love in a name. I don’t think I’d actually use [name_f]Anna[/name_f], of course it’s not number 1 in terms of popularity or used as much as it once was, but it is a classic and too popular for me personally to feel comfortable using. I would really like to use it as a middle though, to honour my mum who’s middle name is [name_f]Ann[/name_f], and just because I adore [name_f]Anna[/name_f].
Right now I have [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] as a combo, and I’m kind of liking [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] at the moment. I spent ages looking for the perfect combo for [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (as a first) and settled on [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], although I really like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] for characters. Being on the familiar side, I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] can get away with a more unusual, out there middle.
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] Nightingale
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
I also think it is quite boring, for a first name at least. I have trouble remembering peoples names when they are something so common like [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_m]Mike[/name_m], [name_m]Matt[/name_m], or [name_m]John[/name_m].
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]!!! It was my first option for girls for a long time and I hope have a daughter called [name_f]Anna[/name_f] someday. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is classic, romantic and smart. I’ve tried some variations like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Annaliese[/name_f]… but just [name_f]Anna[/name_f] touches my heart! My favorite combos:
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - at the first place, means “gracious dawn”
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catharina[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f]! My husband thinks it sounds too much like nana so I think we’d go for [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is simple but that’s a good thing, I feel like she could be anything she wanted to be. It is so wearable for any type of person.
I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. It’s very simple and common, but also very sweet and graceful. I use two pronunciation though, [name_f]Ann[/name_f]-a and [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-na, depending on which language I speak and/or the overall flow of the combo.
My favourite [name_f]Anna[/name_f] names are 1) [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] 2) [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] 3) [name_f]Anna[/name_f] 4) [name_f]Annika[/name_f] 5) [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] 6) [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] 7) [name_f]Anya[/name_f]/[name_f]Anja[/name_f]. So far on my list I have [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] as a first name and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] itself as a middle name (for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]).
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
My daughter is [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], so clearly I am a fan of [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. For me, the name’s main appeal is it’s timeless quality. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] isn’t trendy; it has been steadily popular for decades. Although it’s a very versatile name, for me it has a ‘good girl’ image. I sometimes wonder if it really suits my seven-month old, who is high energy and spunky. I still love it though.
A couple people have mentioned Frozen to me–both girls under the age of seven, who were very impressed! I have found that the name [name_f]Anna[/name_f] doesn’t really stand out. It fits right in with the baby Avas and Ellas that are around, but I think it won’t seem dated in years to come.
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is a family name, but I thought of two other [name_f]Anna[/name_f] combos:
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
I think it’s extremely pretty and dainty. However, I far prefer [name_f]Anne[/name_f].
This is one of those times when I wish I was from the US, so I could use the [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-na pronunciation. Unfortunately, I’m Scottish and the ‘[name_m]Ah[/name_m]’ sound does not exist in my accent. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think if I moved to the States, people would notice that I’m forcing the sound? Probably, is the answer to that. But [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-na is music to my ears
I am not from the US myself, but where I am, [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-na pronunciation is common. I actually say [name_f]Ann[/name_f]-a more when I speak English. Frozen does popularise the [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-na pronunciation a bit, I think, and I am thankful for that part. Forcing the sound? I don’t think so. Practice makes perfect. Maybe it sounds a bit weird for you at first (due to your accent), but after saying it over and over again I think there will be no problem.
I have always had a soft spot for [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. It has that classically beautiful and elegant feel to me.
I can see [name_f]Anna[/name_f] being a lot of different personalities. I have a young cousin called [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (short for [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]), but she is bubbly and vivacious. Plays baseball and is a darn good hitter.
Combo Suggestions
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Helene[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Victoire[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Nadine[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a very popular choice in my area across all age groups. For that reason, I think it’s one of the most versatile girl’s names out there. It’s simple, pretty, and pairs well with just about anything.
Actually, “[name_f]Ann[/name_f]-uh” is the usual pronunciation in the US. I think the “[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-na” pronunciation in Frozen is Disney’s attempt at a Scandinavian pronunciation.
It’s almost always [name_f]Ann[/name_f] uh in the US. [name_f]Ana[/name_f] would be ahn uh
I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f]! It’s simple, sweet, and flowing, and everyone I know named [name_f]Anna[/name_f] has been lovely. The traditional Russian pet name [name_f]Anya[/name_f] is both cute and cool, if you wanted to have a more unusual alternative or nickname. I know an [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and I think that’s a nice double-barreled version, with or without a hyphen. [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be good as well. I also know an [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Cat[/name_f].
