All my girl names are having drawbacks which are making them lose some luster:(
[name]Fiona[/name]- damned Shrek:(. DH loves [name]Fiona[/name] but thinks she might get ogre teasing. I’m not sure how likely this is… You?
[name]Daphne[/name]- love it but sometimes just don’t think it’s the [name]ONE[/name].
[name]Seraphina[/name]- is sera nn cute? Or to plain/boring? I’d try to use Phee as a nn but I’m sure she’d get sera…
[name]Adelaide[/name]- ugh. DH looooves [name]Addie[/name] but I just think [name]Addie[/name] is to overplayed. It affects my love for [name]Adelaide[/name], to think of her as an [name]Addie[/name]. Plus [name]Annie[/name] and [name]Addie[/name] feel to close…
So… Please give me more options. Or comment on my above options! I want something sweetly old fashioned like [name]Annabel[/name] with cute nn options. I’m a nn person!!
I like [name]Fiona[/name]. I don’t think the Shrek thing matters. If you wanted options though, the ones it makes me think of are [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Riona[/name], [name]Elspeth[/name] (okay the other two make more sense it’s just [name]Elspeth[/name] is so classic and Scottish and I think of it with [name]Fiona[/name]…)
[name]Daphne[/name] is sort of meh. I wouldn’t think “oh no that poor thing” or anything but it doesn’t feel great either. [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Dinah[/name], [name]Delia[/name], [name]Dahlia[/name]. [name]Demetria[/name], if you’re feeling brave.
[name]Seraphina[/name] is lovely. [name]Sera[/name] is a little boring but I know a ton of Saras/Sarahs. [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Sapphire[/name], [name]Saffron[/name], [name]Josefina[/name], [name]Zephirine[/name]?
[name]Adelaide[/name] doesn’t do anything for me. I like [name]Ada[/name], just [name]Ada[/name], no [name]Addy[/name], and no [name]Adelaide[/name]. [name]Addy[/name] is too close to [name]Annie[/name] and also just not as pretty - I love [name]Annabel[/name], I’d feel sorry for an [name]Adelaide[/name] who a sister [name]Annabel[/name]. I like a number of A names but they’re rather different, more like [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Aaliyah[/name], [name]Amaryllis[/name]? [name]Ayelet[/name] is too far from [name]Annabel[/name]… hmm.
[name]Fiona[/name] is wonderful. I really, really wouldn’t worry about the Shrek thing. I love [name]Fiona[/name] and no one has ever mentioned the Shrek reference to me.
[name]Daphne[/name] is ok. It pales in beauty compared to [name]Annabel[/name].
I personally detest [name]Seraphina[/name]. You end up with [name]Sera[/name] (boring) or Phina (strange sounding).
I think [name]Adelaide[/name] is too close to [name]Annabel[/name].
My only added suggestion would be [name]Penelope[/name]. I think it goes great with [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Annie[/name] and [name]Penny[/name] is so cute.
[name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] sound so great together! Good luck!
Thanks [name]Elisabeth[/name] rae and stripedsocks!
so, in your opinion, does [name]Fiona[/name] sound as beautiful as [name]Annabel[/name]? Or would [name]Fiona[/name] feel slighted with “not as beautiful of a name”? I am having trouble being objective anymore:( I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]FIONA[/name] but i’ve had so many (really just 50/50) negative comments that it now affects my judgment. [name]Will[/name] she have a pretty name? [name]Will[/name] she love it? [name]Will[/name] she get teased?
I love [name]Penelope[/name]! But DH cannot STAND [name]Penny[/name] nickname… a relative of his is named [name]Penny[/name] and she is crazy! Can [name]Penelope[/name] avoid [name]Penny[/name]? If I called her [name]Nellie[/name] for a nickname? Or [name]Poppy[/name]?
From your name list, I think [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name] are my favourites with [name]Annabel[/name]. Here are some names I can imagine for [name]Annabel[/name]'s sister.
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Verity[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Rosamund[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Marina[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Lavinia[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Sabrina[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Willa[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Sylvia[/name]/[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Veronica[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Lucinda[/name]
Have met ones called [name]Poppy[/name] and also ones called [name]Nell[/name]. [name]One[/name] even called [name]Posy[/name] but I don’t really get that.
I think [name]Penelope[/name] is gorgeous. I do, however, think [name]Fiona[/name] is really pretty and not a weak match to [name]Annabel[/name].
I really like that gently femme old-fashioned name style you have going. I could be here all day throwing out names with a similar vibe, because its my favourite style, but I think [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] are cute themselves so that’s not an attempt to distract you from them.
[name]Fiona[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name]! I actually think it is the prettier name out of the sibset [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name]. But [name]Annabel[/name] is cute too!
[name]Daphne[/name]: I like it!
[name]Seraphina[/name]: [name]Don[/name]'t like so much, it seems over-achieving and a little over the top.
[name]Adelaide[/name]: Really pretty, but you might be right about it being too close to [name]Annabel[/name], especially with the nicknames.
I really like your naming style even though it is way different from my own.
Some suggestions:
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Eliana[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Leonora[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Elena[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name]
In my opinion, [name]Fiona[/name] is beautiful just like [name]Annabel[/name]! I have to strongly vote against [name]Olive[/name] though I know it’s a nb fave but it sounds so icky and homely to me. [name]Olivia[/name] is nice with [name]Annabel[/name] but I know it’s quite popular.
I have heard of Penelopes being [name]Pippa[/name], [name]Poppy[/name], and [name]Nellie[/name]. [name]Penny[/name] is hard to avoid though.
[name]Love[/name] pp’s suggestions of [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Genevieve[/name]. [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name] is still probably my fave!
Agree with the pp, [name]Olive[/name] with [name]Annabel[/name] is no good. It is nowhere even close to as beautiful as [name]Annabel[/name] [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Olivia[/name] would go, but not [name]Olive[/name]. I like [name]Fiona[/name], but I’m not sure with such a sweet and pretty name as [name]Annabel[/name]. [name]Fiona[/name] has a different feel to me, so does [name]Daphne[/name]. I agree with you on the [name]Addie[/name] thing, so I’m not for [name]Adelaide[/name]. I like [name]Seraphina[/name] and as a [name]Sara[/name], I like the [name]Sera[/name] nn myself. Since you like nns, here are a few that could have nns that I think go well with [name]Annabel[/name]:
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Bonnie[/name] (friend has an [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Bonnie[/name] and they are so cute; they sometimes call [name]Bonnie[/name], BonBon, kinda cute)
[name]Lucia[/name]/ [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
I looove [name]Fiona[/name]. I know a few girls with that name and have never thought of the Shrek thing. And even so, [name]Fiona[/name]'s a princess in the film!
None of Penelopes I know go by [name]Penny[/name]. I don’t think it’s the assumed nickname anymore. (I.E. how if you meet a [name]Robert[/name] under the age of 10, you don’t automatically assume [name]Bob[/name]).
I like [name]Nelli[/name]/[name]Nell[/name]
hmmmm, thanks for the input on [name]Olive[/name] I know it shouldn’t matter, but my mom hates it, too! To bad, because I think its darling! So, what vibe or “feel” does [name]Fiona[/name] have to it? I am really curious. Because sometimes I, too, feel that [name]Fiona[/name] is to mature or serious sounding next to the sweet [name]Annabel[/name]. But other times it just makes my heart swell and I think of sweetness, strenght, love and loyalty. I always try to pick names that conjur images or good feelings in my mind. [name]Daphne[/name] does this for me, too.
Other names I have on my list that I can get DH on board with are:
[name]Juliet[/name] (but honestly, I detest [name]Julie[/name] as a nn… it feels so dated to me. DH and I love [name]Jules[/name] though, so not sure if that would stick)
[name]Violet[/name]- Sometimes, DH and I both agree, that [name]Violet[/name] feels anticlimactic for some reason. Like that it is a bit empty or lacks personality? But other times I just adore it.
[name]Penelope[/name]- if we could avoid [name]Penny[/name] and do [name]Nellie[/name]/[name]Nella[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name] is WONDERFUL. I too dislike [name]Julie[/name] and I wouldn’t worry about that, because [name]Julie[/name] is a name on it’s own. Like I don’t call [name]Laurens[/name] by [name]Laura[/name]. [name]Jules[/name] is more likely. I also adore [name]Violet[/name]. [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] are beautiful together, as are [name]Jules[/name] and [name]Annie[/name]
I guess what I love about [name]Fiona[/name] is it can conjur so many images. A little [name]Fiona[/name] is precious and sweet, a grown-up [name]Fiona[/name] is beautiful and confident.
Awe elisabeth rae- you hit the nail on the head with [name]Fiona[/name]! You totally did! I feel that way, too:)
DH would be overjoyed to have a [name]Juliet[/name], only because he fought long and hard for [name]Julie[/name] which I said NO to! But he said he loved [name]Jules[/name]. However, he loves [name]Fiona[/name] even more, i think.
He adored [name]Violet[/name] with my last DD but this time he isn’t so sure.
Well if you are choosing between [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], and [name]Violet[/name], I really think you can’t go wrong! They all are great with [name]Annabel[/name].
[name]Fiona[/name] - Beautiful name, I prefer it to [name]Annabel[/name]. I think by the time she’s school age the Shrek reference will have died out.
[name]Daphne[/name] - Beautiful, similar feel to [name]Fiona[/name] but more sweet like [name]Annabel[/name] is
[name]Seraphina[/name] - It’s a nice name if a little different. I think [name]Sera[/name] is a lovely nn, though I also love Phina (fin-uh)
[name]Adelaide[/name] - okay, spunky and pretty, but not as beautiful as your other choices
[name]Olive[/name] - I really like it, it’s more on the spunky side of [name]Fiona[/name], not as “pretty” but very usable. I know a lot of people find it unpleasant though. I love [name]Liv[/name] and [name]Livy[/name]
thanks girls:) I think it will come down to [name]Fiona[/name] or [name]Daphne[/name]. Those are the only two consistent names on our list. We keep trying to replace them or think of others, but we always come back to these.
[name]Violet[/name] or [name]Juliet[/name] would be the other contenders, though.
To me, [name]Fiona[/name] has a little more of a spunk, and it’s almost ethnic to me, the Irish association is so strong, prob from watching tons of [name]Burn[/name] Notice! Ha. I really like it and I think it can go well with [name]Annabel[/name]. [name]Annabel[/name] has more of a southern, sweet charm to it, so I guess that’s why they seem so different to me. But I think we’re over analyzing it. If you and DH love it, I think you should use it! [name]Daphne[/name] is nice as well, tho I prefer [name]Fiona[/name] and agree the shrek refs will die out when she is school age. Personally I love [name]Juliet[/name] with [name]Annabel[/name], and to me, I would never nn a [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Julie[/name]. [name]Jules[/name] is a much better fit as a nn I think, and I believe it would stick if you told ppl. But you’ve got to use the name you love, and it doesn’t sound like [name]Juliet[/name] does it for you.
true, true… and i love the irish vibe, as all my kids have Gaelic type names (my DH is irish). My DS’s names are [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Sullivan[/name]… So [name]Fiona[/name] fits right it:) And I love the spunk, but I also agree, it doesn’t have the southern charm that [name]Annabel[/name] has… ugh…
That is why I love [name]Violet[/name], I think it really fits the spunk and southern charm vibe, but DH isn’t completely on board. WDYT of [name]Violet[/name]? What image or vibe do you get?
No, I do actually love [name]Juliet[/name], but it hasn’t been my long time name love like [name]Fiona[/name] or [name]Daphne[/name] have. However, that being said, [name]Juliet[/name] would be amazing and I adore the nn [name]Jules[/name] or JuJu:)
Hmmm… here i thought I was making progress with a decision…
I feel for you. I struggled So much with naming my dd! And I’ve had some mild name regret, but I’m in a good place now. it’s just hard! I think you have to remember they will not be known as a sibset forever. They’re going to grow up in a flash (yes, it sucks!!) and move on, and it’s not going to matter how all their names sound together, you know?
Having said that, I do like [name]Violet[/name], and think it goes really well with [name]Annabel[/name]. It’s a sweet name, but I do think of shrinking violet…I don’t think that is a big deal tho. I still like [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name] better. What nn would you use for [name]Violet[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you like it as much as [name]Jules[/name] and/or [name]Fee[/name]? Btw, is [name]Fee[/name] the nn you’d use for [name]Fiona[/name]? I like it, just curious. [name]Fiona[/name] does fit really well with your boys esp.
