I’d love some help deciding between [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] please! [name_f]My[/name_f] worry with [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is the link with the horror movie… am I being ridiculous?! It’s my favourite of the 2 names but maybe [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is more classic and elegant?
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] doesn’t make me thing of the movie at all. It’s familiar enough to not be associated with it (there’s the poem [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u], which is a positive association imo, and not too much)
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]! I love this name. Its romantic and feminine sound is beautiful. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is nice but pretty boring at this point imo.
I prefer Annabel! In the movie, her name is spelled Annabelle. So I think that eliminates the connection since you’re spelling it Annabel. Emily has never appealed to me. It’s quite overused and I don’t like the way it sounds. I like Emerson more. Annabel is less common and beautiful!
I love the name [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and refuse to watch the movie just so I wouldn’t have any scary association in my mind, lol. But when if you’ve watched it, I don’t think it’s a big deal? Annabel(le) is a well-established name and the horror movie link is something that will fade. So I think [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] (or even Annabelle) will be a safe choice in the long run. I love Poe’s [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u], so the poem is what I think about instead of the scary doll.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is nice too, but my heart is with [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].
I don’t even know which movie you’re referring to! [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is my preference too – it’s sweet but elegant, feminine but (in this spelling) not too frilly. It’s also much less common; [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is feeling rather overdone to me at this point.
I’m another who has no idea what movie you are referring to. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is a great name. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it. I like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] too, but as others have said, it is feeling a bit overdone at this point.
I know the films well and I still don’t think of them when I hear of a child called [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. I love the name (and all the nickname options) and I wouldn’t let a movie series about a doll put you off!
I don’t know if it’s my age or if people on nameberry don’t stay up to date on movies as much or what, but I definitely think of the [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] connection instantly when I hear the name now. Especially since those movies are so popular and are still actively being released (a new one just came out). This is not the first time I found a comment section of people all saying they didn’t think of a movie association when it’s basically the only thing I can think about when I hear a certain name. 🤷
I never think of the horror movie with the name [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], especially when it’s spelled this way. I think the name [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is very very cute, and I prefer if over [name_f]Emily[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] over [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. I do think of the movies, but it is not my only association with the name so that doesn’t bother me.
I prefer [name_f]Emily[/name_f]! I know that it’s used a lot more than [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] but I think it just sounds prettier without being too frilly like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is in my opinion.
Thanks everyone for all your messages! After much deliberation we’ve gone for [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is a really beautiful name but there are spelling variations and nicknames that I’m not keen on… so [name_f]Emily[/name_f] it is.
