Annabelle or Eliza

My top girl’s name for the past couple years (our first child is a boy, now trying for #2) has been [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] with other lovely choices coming and going from my list. One of these names is [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is my Great Grandma’s name and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is my Grandma’s middle name so I thought it would be a lovely choice to honor these ladies if I were to have more girls down the road.
All of my name choices have three syllables, and a nickname that is one syllable. I didn’t plan that, I think it just speaks to my natural naming style. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] doesn’t really have any good nickname options, and I might be getting bored with it… I don’t know.

Which do you prefer: [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and why?

I much prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. And while I like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] has never appealed to me. Not the most exciting of nicknames but I do I know one [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] who is shortened to [name_f]Liza[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I feel like it ages better. I love the meaning behind [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] though. Have you considered making it the middle? [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is nice.

love [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. I love that [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] honors two special people for you. I actually like [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. This way the combo honors two people and has a name you have loved for awhile.

I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and I like the suggestion of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] would age better. I’m not a big fan of [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] but I prefer the [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] spelling to [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], but I’m biased - it’s my favorite name! To me, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is timeless and chic whereas [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], as pretty as she is, runs along the cutesy course. I’m just not into cutesy, personally. I would say that [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is better than, say, [name_f]Claribel[/name_f], because [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is more prominent and simple, but altogether, beyond [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], I generally struggle with [name_f]Belle[/name_f] names and that cute-too-cute border. To me, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has enough spunk to stand out, but she isn’t overtly bold. As far as nicknames, I’ve recently come to like [name_f]Liza[/name_f], though I also enjoy [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and my guilty pleasure nickname, [name_u]Elzie[/name_u].

With your [name_m]Evander[/name_m], I actually like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] best of your three girl options. I just think they fit quite naturally together. I also like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] if you’re interested in something glitzy and a little over the three-syllable count. You might also consider “combining” [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] into [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], and something like [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] could be very pretty to get so many of your favorites into one name - [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] certainly stands out, but she’s still comfy-chic. With [name_m]Evander[/name_m], I think other three-syllable names that might strike your fancy could be [name_f]Amabel[/name_f] (it’s just less cutesy than [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]!), [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], Hosanna, [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f], [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f], [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], or [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]. If you like the one-syllable nickname, I think [name_f]Amabel[/name_f] “[name_f]Belle[/name_f],” [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] “[name_f]Bree[/name_f],” [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] “[name_f]Fae[/name_f],” [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] “[name_f]Gwen[/name_f],” [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] “[name_f]Gen[/name_f],” [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] “[name_u]Jess[/name_u],” or [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] “[name_f]Roe[/name_f]” are great. I adore the sound of [name_m]Evander[/name_m] and [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] together!

Best of luck,

[name_m]Lemon[/name_m]

I much prefer [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f].

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] feels very popular to me, and just seems to be an offshoot of the popularity of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] not a name of it’s own.

[name_m]Add[/name_m] to that the popularity of names like [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and on and on.

My first connection to [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is the whiny character in My Fair Lady and then [name_f]Liza[/name_f] Minella.

Goodness, you ladies are super helpful! [name_m]Lemon[/name_m], thank you so much! You have given me so much food for thought! I’m now loving [name_u]Elzie[/name_u] too  [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is a guilty pleasure of mine. I don’t find [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] to be cutesy… maybe because it is honoring my Grandmas… they seem timeless to me. [name_f]Kala[/name_f], I also have struggled with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] being a nickname name in itself… My hubby really doesn’t like [name_f]Liza[/name_f] at all. I suggested [name_f]Elle[/name_f], but he thinks it’s a stretch. I’m not sure why Girls’ names are so hard for us. If this babe is a boy, he will be [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] for sure. I appreciate all your input

I love both I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] together is perfect.

I think [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is stunning, especially with the family significance. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is nms.

I love both names, but [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a personal favorite, as my (identical) twin is called [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. If I ever used [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], it would be in her honor, hence why it’s a favorite.

So yeah, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] for me.
