Annabelle

Is [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] an unusable name? I have always loved it and it’s my grandmothers name but I discovered from online it’s apparently the name of a horror movie (that I have never see ). Anyway what is your impression of the name and if you do make that association is the association that strong that it makes the name unusable? I feel like it’s such a classic and old times name and since I myself nor my husband have never heard of the horror movie I’m hoping that movie will be….not as classic.

I think it’s totally wearable! I know of a little [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] who is under 2, and she is adorable. If you live it, go for it! I don’t think the movie association is too strong.

I think [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is useable

I have heard of the movie, but I doubt it’d be most people’s immediate and only association. I personally don’t think of the movie at all
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is a completely usable name, I like the charm and elegance it has.

I prefer [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], but [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is nice and usable. The tie to the [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] movie (and doll) is strong for me (and I have never seen it, but that is why [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is on my list and not Annabelle) but it doesn’t make it unusable. It’s a pretty, classical name.

I love the name Annabelle! It’s so classic, and it’s been around a lot longer than the movie. It’s also pretty popular, so the movie isn’t my first thought. If you don’t like it’s connection to the movie, you might prefer the Annabel spelling.

Personally I think you will get the association pretty often. If you are OK with people making comments about it, then go for it, but if the horror movie association bothers you then I’d probably steer clear. Maybe it depends on your age, but I think almost everyone I know would always think of the [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] movies immediately when hearing the name. The movies are extremely popular and are still currently being released so they’re fresh in everyone’s minds. For reference, the newest [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] movie opened at #2 in the box office and brought in over $74 million.

I do not like it for a first name, but not because of the horror film. Middle name is nice though.

i prefer the annabel spelling personally, the movie is an association but it’s not my first thought. i know a few people with the name and it’s not a problem for them, definitely wearable and has plenty of nickname options too which is often a bonus :))

I don’t think it’s unusable! I do think of the horror movie but that’s not the first association that comes to mind. I think of it more as a classic and old fashioned name before I think of the horror movie.

The movies are my first association with the spelling [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] but it’s a nice name, and the name itself and other spellings don’t make me think of the movie immediately. I’ve never seen them either but they’re recent enough that I’m familiar with all of the advertising for them.

Yes, it is. [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is a well-established name long before the movie came out. And while the movie was rather popular back then, it’s not really an association that’ll last forever.

I’m aware of the association but I definitely don’t think it makes the name unusable! [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is lovely and the fact that it’s your grandmother’s name makes it all the more special :yellow_heart: I vote use it!

There are plenty of people who don’t watch horror films at all so I wouldn’t worry about the association. Nameberry was the first place I heard of the horror movie (series?). I only really watched any horror movies as a teen and I think this movie was after that. It’s certainly not like using the name Dracula or something. [name_f]Do[/name_f] kids dress up as [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] on Halloween? I guess I wouldn’t know lol.

I actually think of the [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] [name_u]Poe[/name_u] poem [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] which is still a little creepy.

Anyway I think it’s totally usable.

I love the [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] movies so I do immediately think of the doll. I don’t think it’s a bad association - she would have a built in Halloween costume if she ever wants to do that  You’re right though, it’s a classic and sweet name and the movies don’t make it unusable.

I love [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] soooo much! She’s been my favorite name for probably twelve years, and I am determined to name a baby girl [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] one day! I love all the nickname options like [name_u]Anne[/name_u], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f], etc.
