Anne; boring and dated or lovely and vintage?

I’m looking your everyone’s opinions on [name]Anne[/name].
I love the name, and find it so charming and sweet. However, most people I’ve talked to say that [name]Anne[/name] is extremely dated, plain, and serious. They don’t think [name]Anne[/name] has the vintage charm I think it does.

So what is your opinion on [name]Anne[/name]?

I don’t personally care for it on its own, but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Annie[/name]!

Def, old and outdated [name]IMO[/name].

I always think of [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables by [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Maud[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name]!

It’s charming and sophisticated and more fresh as a first name than as a middle.

I think [name]Anne[/name] is quite charming, and it would be very refreshing to meet a little girl named [name]Anne[/name] in this generation of Nevaehs and Kayleighs. It is a very nice name, but I do prefer [name]Annie[/name].

Plain, but not necessarily in a bad or even “dated” way. [name]Anne[/name] actually seems far fresher to me than [name]Anna[/name], [name]Ana[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Annabelle[/name] or [name]Annabella[/name].

I’m not a fan.

I agree with agirlinred – I would love to meet a little girl named [name]Anne[/name]. It has a very [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables vibe for me. That said, some will probably think it a plain or old-fashioned choice, but if you love it, go for it!

Super dated…mega boring…I love [name]Annie[/name] though

I love [name]Ann[/name]/[name]Anne[/name]; it’s one of my favorites. Plus, I can’t get enough of the nn [name]Annie[/name]. It’s feminine w/o being frilly like [name]Annabelle[/name]/[name]Annabella[/name].

I don’t think it’s that dated, I think of [name]Anne[/name] as more of a classic name. I think it’s a sweet and charming name as well. And I love the idea of using [name]Annie[/name] for an [name]Anne[/name].

The ‘e’ makes all the difference! “[name]Ann[/name]” is plain, boring, dated. “[name]Anne[/name]” is vintage, queenly and sweet…to me, anyway! When I think of [name]Anne[/name] I think of [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables, [name]Queen[/name] [name]Anne[/name]'s [name]Lace[/name] (the flower), [name]Anne[/name] [name]Frank[/name]'s brave diary and of numerous queens. It’s a name with history, femininity, grace and charm.

[name]Annie[/name] is cute too.

Voice of dissent: I dislike [name]Annie[/name]. I don’t know that its avoidable, if she’s an [name]Anne[/name], but if possible, I would avoid it.

I don’t mind [name]Anne[/name]. I prefer [name]Annabel[/name] simply because there’s a possibility she won’t get called [name]Annie[/name].

[name]Anne[/name] itself is graceful and nice enough. I also like [name]Hannah[/name], which is related.

I like [name]Anne[/name]

As [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables said:

“If you must call me [name]Anne[/name] then spell it with an e.”

“What difference does it make how it’s spelled?”

“It makes a load of difference. Print out A N N and it looks just dreadful, but [name]Anne[/name] with an e looks quite distinguished.”

Personally I would use [name]Anna[/name] or [name]Annabelle[/name], but I really think [name]Anne[/name] is classic, lovely and completely useable! [name]Annie[/name] is a cute nn if you wanted it.

@hazysummerskies - that’s EXACTLY it.

I totally agree with @hazysummerskies.

I happen to [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Anne[/name]. [name]LOVE[/name] IT!! I just don’t get how anyone can possibly think that it is dated and boring, it is so classic and regal and has so much history and so many namesakes and makes me absolutely drool. I [name]LOVE[/name] IT!! I am mega jealous, my sisters middle name is [name]Anne[/name] and mine is [name]Jade[/name], and I always felt ripped off. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Anne[/name]. Am I being too enthusiastic about this name?.. Nope, don’t think so!! [name]Just[/name] gorgeous.

And I agree with some of the previous posters, I don’t get [name]Annie[/name]. Or [name]Anna[/name]. I know most people love [name]Anna[/name], but I don’t get it. [name]Anne[/name] on the other hand (with the ‘e’ at the end) is bloody fantastic.

The accents in my region can be a bit nasally, so for that reason, I don’t like [name]Anne[/name]. But it’s a perfectly nice name that never be “dated.” What year would it “date” to? Definitely a classic.

I love [name]Anne[/name]! I don’t think it’s dated at all, but I think of it more as classic than vintage (maybe these are only different in my head). I also love [name]Anna[/name], and I like the nickname [name]Annie[/name] for [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Anna[/name] (if it fits), but I think it’s absolutely avoidable if you don’t like it. [name]Anne[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] are very high on my list, and although my style is very strictly classic, I’ve really been loving [name]Annabel[/name] recently. Something about it really has a hold on me.
