S/O and I are really liking the name [name_f]Annesley[/name_f]/[name_f]Ansley[/name_f] at the moment - it ticks a lot of boxes for us both, but we can’t seem to settle on a spelling.
[name_f]Annesley[/name_f] was our first pick originally between the two - it was just the default way we seemed to spell it, and this spelling directly honours beloved family members with the “[name_f]Anne[/name_f]” beginning. However, it has never ranked in the SSA Top 1000, so we worry that this spelling could be problematic.
[name_f]Ansley[/name_f] is more common (ranking for the last 24 years, always around the 600-900 mark), and feels less complicated and easier to wear and spell, but for us, has no family connection.
While we do like [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], it just doesn’t do it for us as much as [name_f]Annesley[/name_f]/[name_f]Ansley[/name_f] at the moment (though we are a couple of years off from having kids)!
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Annesley[/name_f] or [name_f]Ansley[/name_f]?
Are you pronouncing them the same as [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]? With [name_f]Anne[/name_f] at the start, I’m more inclined to say [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-slee rather than ayn-slee.
I prefer the [name_f]Ansley[/name_f] spelling, I can’t say I’d ever come across [name_f]Annesley[/name_f] before. But if it has meaning for you, go for it.
@carysmarie, No, we are pronouncing them differently, I just wanted to avoid 10 replies with “have you considered [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]?” LOL! I believe the two names are related though.
We pronounce [name_f]Annesley[/name_f]/[name_f]Ansley[/name_f] as [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-slee
I’d pronounce [name_f]Ansley[/name_f] as ANS-lee and [name_f]Annesley[/name_f] as AN-slee. Personally I’d rather be called [name_f]Ansley[/name_f], it’s the less ‘‘weird’’ spelling.
I prefer [name_f]Ansley[/name_f] but I don’t dislike [name_f]Annesley[/name_f]. My pesky brain just wants to pronounce the E when I say it so it’d be more like ann-es-lee. I have the same issue with the [name_f]Brookelyn[/name_f] spelling where I wanna say it brook-ell-en instead.
Sorry, but you lost me…both look misspelled/made-up, which I am not a fan of because it’s a lifelong sentence to correcting the pronounciation and/or spelling.
I still hear [name_f]Ann[/name_f] in [name_f]Ansley[/name_f]. After all it isn’t [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], which does not honor [name_f]Ann[/name_f].
What about a compromise to [name_f]Annsley[/name_f].
[name_f]Annesley[/name_f] will forever be explaining the pronunciation of her name. Is it An nes lee? Is it A nez lee? However everyone is familiar with [name_f]Ansley[/name_f]. I like both [name_f]Annsley[/name_f] or [name_f]Ansley[/name_f]. It is a beautiful name!
