We are naming our third daughter. I have always loved the name [name]Annika[/name], but I haven’t used it because it’s so close to my name. DH says since it is pronounced completely differently, that isn’t a problem and we should use it. What do you think? Sisters are [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Katja[/name] (short for [name]Katharina[/name]).
I think they’re too close, even with different pronunciations. On paper they share the first three letters, which makes it look like [name]Annika[/name] was named after you. Maybe as a middle name?
I love [name]Annika[/name]! I think it goes great with [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Katja[/name], and I don’t think it’s too close to your name, especially since it is said differently.
Good luck!
I think you can totally do it, they are very different names!
I love [name]Annika[/name] and agree with most of the others that even though they look similar, they don’t sound similar. I think it sounds lovely with the other girls.
If you’re worried about it looking to similar on paper, I have a character in my book whose name is Onikka and I say it exactly like [name]Annika[/name] if you want to steal that spelling
I don’t think it’s similar and I love the name [name]Annika[/name]! In addition to dantea’s suggestion of Onikka, there’s also [name]Anika[/name], Anikah, [name]Anneke[/name] (I think?), and I’m sure there’s a bunch more!
Thanks for all the feedback. Agirlinred, I have always thought they were too close. But then I think–what’s wrong with naming my daughter after myself? Boys are named after their dads all the time. And I’m swayed a bit by the fact that we have a HARD time with names. My husband is [name]German[/name], so most uncommon American names sound weird to him, and some he and his family can’t pronounce. But when I bring up beautiful [name]German[/name] names, they all sound out-dated to him. Germans are using a lot of popular American names these days, instead of bringing the old-fashioned [name]German[/name] ones back.
[name]Annika[/name] is very common in Germany, but in the 400s here. Everyone I’ve mentioned it to had a very positive reaction. The other name we are considering is [name]Alexandra[/name]. I love it, but we can’t find a nickname that works. [name]Do[/name] you think an [name]Alexandra[/name] could go by her full name? I know Elizabeths who do, but somehow [name]Alexandra[/name] seems longer, even though it has the same number of syllables.
I think [name]Annika[/name] is lovely with your other daughters’ names I think it would be sweet to have your name and your daughters names to be somewhat similar yet still different
I dont think Thats a problem at all. My name is [name]Maria[/name] and i have a daughter named [name]Mia[/name]. 2 different names, plus youre “Mommy” most of the time
