Another Charlotte Nickname?

I read a short story about a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Cora[/name_f] today and thought, how lovely! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is a bit of a stretch in real life, or does it work fairly well?
Thanks in advance for your opinions!

It is a bit of a stretch but so what! Most nn’s are. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is a beautiful nickname which I would love to use if [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] was my name…I like it! Besides [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] contains the name [name_f]Cora[/name_f] so it works [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

This is very unexpected… but then I don’t get most of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s nickname. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f] can works, imo.

I can’t relate the two at all, sorry. I don’t think it works.

I personally don’t see it, but then again, I am a huge fan of the nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]!

I agree. I also understand how [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] got most of its nicknames so to me, that’s not the as this.

I can see how it could work but my issue with it is that [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] are two very different people to me. I can’t really reconcile the two different personalities - feels a little dissociative to me. I really like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] though and I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] so much more than [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]! It is a bit of a stretch ,but I think it could work. Im still trying to figure how someone can get [name_m]Jack[/name_m] from the name [name_m]John[/name_m]. That makes no sense to me at all. lol.

In the medieval times, extremely common names like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] etc… were given to the majority of babies born during that time. Unusual nicknames arose due to this prevalence to differentiate between the individuals (eg. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] > [name_f]Molly[/name_f] > [name_f]Polly[/name_f] and [name_m]John[/name_m] > [name_m]Jack[/name_m]). While I think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] are two entirely different names with completely separate histories, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] does contain all of [name_f]Cora[/name_f]'s letters so it could work. It’s not intuitive and I do prefer [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as a nn but if you dislike it as well as [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], then [name_f]Cora[/name_f] would be fine.
