I voted for [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]! I think it’s nice by itself and fits in without being common.
I think [name_f]Maya[/name_f] with an er surname is fine…as long as it’s not [name_u]Taylor[/name_u].
I don’t think [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] is a good nickname for a girl. Makes me think of iguanas, [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] Pop, and [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] Stardust.
I was torn between [name_f]Polly[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]. I really like both of them for you. I think you will run into some pronunciation difficulties with [name_f]Maya[/name_f].
Thanks. I float between [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]. Naming babies is hard! Our last name is definitely not [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]. It rhymes with hatter.
Thanks. I really like both too but just don’t know in Aus I think [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is mainly pronounced may-uh but could be wrong. It is a concern for me. I have a very easy, common name so never had any troubles but my husbands gets mistaken all the time.
I voted for [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], but I also really like [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] nicknamed [name_m]Iggy[/name_m]. So cute! I don’t think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is too similar to [name_u]Stevie[/name_u]. For siblings, yes, but not for extended family.
I love [name_f]Polly[/name_f] & [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]!
I love [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], and I like [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] too.
I voted for [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] “[name_m]Iggy[/name_m]” as it’s the most versatile of my favourites here — chic, tailored, classic full name with a cute/quirky nickname built in. I think it’s utterly fabulous!
I appreciate the significance of [name_f]Maya[/name_f] but I personally find it a little bit bland and overdone, plus my intuitive pronunciation would be MY-ah, not [name_f]MAY[/name_f]-ah. [name_u]Riley[/name_u] I find too trendy, and a completely different style to the other names on your list.
I voted for [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]; so sweet! I don’t think it’s too close to [name_u]Stevie[/name_u], totally different feel despite similar sound.
I agree that [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] can be used alone, but you could also use [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] as a longer form.
[name_m]Iggy[/name_m] is not my favorite. I know an [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] nn Ings.
I’m in Australia too and know several [name_f]Maya[/name_f]/Maias who are all pronounced as Mye-ah not [name_f]May[/name_f]-ah. Interestingly I know of one [name_f]Maya[/name_f] in the US and she is pronounced [name_f]May[/name_f]-ah. Also [name_f]Maya[/name_f] has been in the top 100 in Aus for some time and last year was at no 51, so it may be more popular than you realise.
I think [name_u]Riley[/name_u] has a totally different vibe to your other names and is the one I would definitely cross off.
I love [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]/[name_m]Iggy[/name_m]. I voted for [name_f]Polly[/name_f] but would love any of these. It depends for me on first daughter’s name.
Very torn between [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] but I went with [name_f]Polly[/name_f] in the end - both are so lovely though
Thanks everyone. So good to see the [name_f]Polly[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] love. [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] nn [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] getting a few runners ups. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] are more names of meaning rather than liking the actual name more if that makes sense (and both my husbands suggestions) I am still concerned that [name_f]Maya[/name_f] doesn’t flow with our sir name so it might head down the list a bit. Great to get some positive feedback. I was feeling a little frazzled with my list. Are there any other names of similar feel to [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] ([name_f]Ingrid[/name_f])?
Interesting you say about the pronunciation of [name_f]Maya[/name_f] as I’ve only met one [name_f]Maya[/name_f] (and work in childcare) and she is may-a. Good to heard feedback on the name from a fellow Aussie.
My dd1 is [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. Absolutely love her name and feel no others come close to. :-?
Interesting you say about the pronunciation of [name_f]Maya[/name_f] in Aus. I’ve only met one [name_f]Maya[/name_f] (I work in childcare too) and she is may-a. Great to get some feedback on the name from a fellow Aussie, thanks.
My dd1 is [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. I absolutely love her name and am struggling to find a name that I love equally as much.
I really like [name_f]Maya[/name_f], though I do prefer it spelled [name_f]Maia[/name_f] myself, and (as an Aussie myself) pronounced MY-uh (which I think is the more common pronunciation for the majority). Although [name_f]MAY[/name_f]-uh has a lovely sound, I think you’d have a lot of pronunciation issues, especially being as [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is relatively common nowadays, and usually pronounced the other way.
I really like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], however, as you already have [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], I’m not as fond of the double -EE endings (and the S & L sounds repeat too). The same goes for the endings of [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f] & [name_u]Riley[/name_u].
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is lovely, and I think [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] & [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] sound great together. That said, I’m not at all fond of [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] as a nickname, and actually think that it diminishes the strength and beauty of [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f].
Ultimately, [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] got my vote.
As for other names you might enjoy…

[name_m]How[/name_m] about going with [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]? You can call her [name_f]May[/name_f] as a nn.
With first daughter’s name, my favourite is [name_f]Polly[/name_f] and then [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] are [name_f]LOVELY[/name_f] together.
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] got my vote! [name_u]Love[/name_u] it and it’s down to earth yet girly feel. I also adore [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] (like opposite styles I know :)).
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.
Here are my thoughts:
[name_f]Maya[/name_f]-I’m a little torn here, because I feel like this is supposed to be said ‘My-uh’. That’s just because I’m in the U.S. [name_f]May[/name_f]-uh probably makes perfect sense in Australia. I would worry it would get lost in a sea of Mias though. Is [name_f]Mia[/name_f] as popular there as it is here? I love [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] though. Especially with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] (which is so cute!)
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]-This may be my favorite for you. It’s sweet and simple, but not over done. It goes great with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]-Super sweet, but I prefer it as a nn for [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. And I do think it may get confusing with a [name_u]Stevie[/name_u] nearby.
[name_f]Ginny[/name_f]-I like it, but just can’t see it as a stand alone name. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] is lovely.
[name_u]Riley[/name_u]-This is too trendy and unisex in my opinion. Maybe nice as a mn.
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]-This is not my favorite, but it’s different and a fine name. I don’t care for [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] though. It reminds me of [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] Pop or [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]. Neither of them are very cute…how about [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] nn Idgie?
Suggestions:
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]/[name_f]Ginny[/name_f]/Idgie/[name_f]Imee[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]/[name_f]Junie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]…maybe [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Camille[/name_f]?
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]/[name_f]Livy[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]/[name_u]Penny[/name_u]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]/[name_f]Vivie[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]…maybe as a nn for [name_f]Anwen[/name_f], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f], [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]? Or just [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] nn [name_f]Wynnie[/name_f].
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
I like the first three so much, it was hard to choose but I opted for [name_f]Polly[/name_f]. It has heaps of character yet is quite underused. It sounds friendly, open and charming. [name_m]How[/name_m] could anyone not love a [name_f]Polly[/name_f]?
