I’m a stomach sleeper, and this concerns me about pregnancy. I mean I sleep on my stomach, limbs sprawled out, no pillow under my head even…basically like a baby sprawled out in a crib…lol. This sleeping position preference became more serious two years ago when I was in a nearly-fatal car accident, my pelvis got crushed (among other things…everything’s healed now though), and my pelvis now gets sore when I lay on my back or even my side. What do stomach-sleepers do when pregnant? I don’t want to squish the baby! And I don’t want to feel like I’m sleeping on a bowling ball.
you can sleep on your stomach in the beginning but you definitely wont be comfortable after the 2nd trimester. Mostly they dont recommend sleeping on your back since that reduces circulation to the baby and puts too much extra weight on your spine. You are supposed to sleep on your side, I use multiple pillows to say comfortable and sleep on my side leaning into the pillows.
lots of pillows and a “body pillow” are always my best friends.
I know alot of ladies who sleep/nap in a recliner a few hours each night because it’s the only comfortable position.
[name]Even[/name] in the first trimester, you can feel uncomfortable sleeping on your stomach-- and I don’t just mean that you are worried about doing it. I mean physically uncomfortable.
I’m totally a stomach sleeper too and I could sleep on my stomach until about 20 weeks and then it became super uncomfortable. I’m not gonna lie, the last 2 months of pregnancy sucked. I could never get any sleep because I couldn’t get in a comfortable position and you have to get up and pee like every hour. My suggestion, body pillows. And it helped me to sleep alone too, my husband gets up super early every morning, so the best sleep I got was between 6-9 or so in the morning when he wasn’t in bed with me. :o
Your sleeping position will change as the shape of your body changes.
I echo the other posters who recommend a body pillow. They can provide great support as your burgeoning tummy forces you into positions you ordinarily wouldn’t sleep in.
Yeah the last couple months are pretty miserable…i remember after giving birth that first time I could go back to sleeping on my tumy…ahhhh it was so nice
