[name_f]Anouk[/name_f] has been a favorite name of mine since I watched the movie “Chocolate”. Now that I’m expecting I would love to name my daughter this, but worry it might be a little crazy in the US. What are your thoughts on this name? I have a daughter named [name_f]Eva[/name_f] already and have a preference for short, feminine and strong names.
I love [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]! I can’t comment on the US, but in Aus it’s definitely not too crazy.
I’ve had [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] on my mind lately, too. It is one of my favourite names. I’m not in the U.S., but it is still a very uncommon (but not unheard of) name where I live and this wouldn’t stop me using it. It is an established name in [name_f]France[/name_f] and the Netherlands and I think a lot of people in the U.S. and elsewhere would be familiar with the book and/or the film reference. I think [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] goes really well with [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f] is unique, you won’t find little girls named [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] running around, people might mispell or mispronounce it. It will happen. It happens even with the more usual names, but it will happen a little bit more with [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]. It depends on whether you like it as much to be ok with this.
I personally think [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] is lovely, I would use it. And to me, [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] make a gorgeous sibset.
Thank you for commenting. It makes me a lot more relieved that I’m not the only one out there loving this name and thinking it could work. I don’t mind having to explain how [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] is spelled because even with my name ([name_f]Norah[/name_f]) and with [name_f]Eva[/name_f] we get asked a lot. I just love how completely unique [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] is without being so over the top and in your face.
I’ve never heard of this before (nor the movie it came from?) and I do find it a bit odd. The name makes me think of [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] and eskimos, which isn’t a bad thing…but that is what I think of at first. If it doesn’t bother you then go ahead.
I’m from the US by the way.
I like [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], although I’m more familiar with [name_f]Annick[/name_f], Annique, [name_m]Yannick[/name_m]… other variations on the name. [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs is a similar one I also adore.
[name_f]Anais[/name_f] is beautiful! Thanks for the suggestion, I really, really like it and can’t believe I haven’t thought of it!
I love [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]. It will seem very unusual to many people not based in Europe (or into names), but definitely usable [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I really like [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], I love the sound. I saw Chocolat a when I was a child, and I have no recollation of there being an [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] (though I have no doubt i’ve just forgotten!) but it does feel familiar.
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f] is lovely, and quite a familiar name here in Australia. Definitely not crazy. Funnily I just watched ‘Chocolat’ for the first time yesterday.
It would be too unique for me.
I also think of [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] (I’m in the US). I think maybe because of Nanook of the [name_u]North[/name_u]? It’s definitely unfamiliar, but if it’s popular in Europe maybe it will come over in a few years.
I believe there was a [name_m]French[/name_m] actress a while back whose name was [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]/[name_f]Anouck[/name_f]…
