What do you Berries think of the name [name]Antonia[/name]? I’m not normally a fan of feminizations, but this name appeals to me. I am also intrigued by the alternate, albeit confusing, pronunciation of ahn-toe-KNEE-ah. Anyway, do you like the name? [name]Do[/name] you like the nn [name]Toni[/name]? [name]How[/name] do you picture a girl named [name]Antonia[/name]?
Thanks!
It’s my cousins name. She always went by [name]Toni[/name]. It’s not a very pretty name [name]IMO[/name]
If you want that prn I would suggest [name]Antonina[/name]. Which I like, and [name]Nina[/name] is a really cool NN.
I love that name! I had a childhood friend named [name]Antonija[/name] (same name different spelling) we always called her Tonija (tonia) for short.
I do think it’s pretty, but I honestly hate the nn [name]Toni[/name] and [name]Nina[/name]. [name]Ania[/name] is sorta cute though
I love [name]Antonia[/name]! It reminds me a lot of My [name]Antonia[/name]. [name]Toni[/name] is NMS though.
[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Antonia[/name] and [name]Toni[/name]. This was on my list for a long time. [name]Nina[/name] is great too.
Thanks so much for the feedback so far! Keep the comments coming!
I have a few more things to add:
I just discovered the name [name]Tonia[/name]. I am really liking it and I think I prefer it to [name]Antonia[/name]. Any impressions of that name? [name]Do[/name] you like it more or less than [name]Antonia[/name]?
Also, considering the fact that [name]Antonia[/name] is Latin and (I think) the girl in My [name]Antonia[/name] had dark hair and dark eyes, do you think it would be odd to give the name to a blond-haired, blue-eyed child? I’m just trying to get a good picture of people’s perceptions of the name.
Thanks!
I too love [name]Antonia[/name] because of My [name]Antonia[/name], its pioneering feel and determination/sweetness/independence. I think the alternative pronunciation is interesting, but will seem unintuitive to most people. ([name]Antonina[/name] would get you there better, I agree). So I prefer the original pronunciation. I like [name]Annie[/name], [name]Nia[/name], and [name]Nina[/name] as nicknames. I definitely think it could be worn by a blond child just as well as a darker, Mediterranean-looking one.
I like [name]Tonia[/name] less than [name]Antonia[/name], partially because I can’t figure out if it’s meant to be more like TOE-nya or TOE-nee-ah or TAWN-ya (and [name]Tonya[/name], [name]Tanya[/name], etc. all seem quite dated to me). But then I also really dislike the nickname [name]Toni[/name].
I love [name]Antonia[/name] but the only nn I could do is [name]Annie[/name] & I feel like I am sooo not into [name]Toni[/name] that I just couldn’t use it.
It’s beautiful though.
[name]Antonia[/name] is so elegant. I love it and considered it myself. Prefer the “An-TONE-ya” pronunciation. Not wild about [name]Toni[/name], despite [name]Toni[/name] [name]Morrison[/name]… I can’t help thinking of [name]Tony[/name] Soprano
I think that the name [name]Antonia[/name] is GORGEOUS! I love it so much! However, I’m not exactly a fan of the nickname [name]Toni[/name], I prefer [name]Annie[/name] instead. I was in the same boat as you were awhile ago, I think I may have even made a post about it. It was growing on me, but I wasn’t exactly sure what to think of it, but I got some much positive feedback. For me I picture a little [name]Antonia[/name] to be strong minded and confident as well as sweet. Have you ever read My [name]Antonia[/name] by [name]Willa[/name] [name]Carter[/name]? That was what introduced me to the name, I loved the character [name]Antonia[/name], I highly suggest it if you haven’t read it already! Best of [name]Luck[/name]
