I see [name]Arden[/name] mentioned on this board, but not [name]Ardith[/name] or [name]Ardyth[/name]. Thoughts?
And do you prefer the [name]Ardith[/name] or [name]Ardyth[/name] spelling? This is a case in which I prefer the y - I think it looks better because the i gets a bit lost next to the t and the vertical line at the right of the d.
I like it. I think it’s much fresher than [name]Edith[/name] and I like that [name]Ari[/name] or [name]Ardi[/name] could be a nickname! I like it better with the I because the Y makes it looks a little trendy to me.
I like [name]Ardith[/name]-- I like [name]Edith[/name] and Lilth more, but [name]Ardith[/name] more than [name]Judith[/name]. It seems to have a puritan/pilgrim feel like [name]Arden[/name] and [name]Judith[/name] too (and I like this about it).
For some reason I hadn’t seen the [name]Ardeth[/name] variation, which also takes care of the problem I have with the i.
I also didn’t know it meant “flowering field” in Hebrew. I thought it was an English name meaning good war. It’s cool that it has a dual origin and is (somewhat of) a nature name too!
I agree that [name]Ardyth[/name]/[name]Ardith[/name]/[name]Ardeth[/name] feels fresher than [name]Edith[/name], or possibly [name]Arden[/name] (just because names with -n endings, if not necessarily [name]Arden[/name] itself, have been huge lately).
[name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Ardith[/name]! Have had it on my list for years! Not personally a fan of the ‘[name]Ardyth[/name]’ spelling personally, to me it seems a bit kre8ive, but I do not know the history of the name or if it is a legitimate spelling. I just know that I love the sound and meaning. On trend with names like [name]Edith[/name] and [name]Eden[/name] and [name]Arden[/name], so it would be a fresh alterntive and less a common option. Oh, this name makes me swoon…
I saw [name]Ardith[/name] for what was perhaps the first time in Nameberry’s recent “[name]Secret[/name] Garden” blog, about names that have nature meanings but aren’t as obvious as [name]Lily[/name] or [name]Oak[/name]. And I loved it, which is unusual since it’s a girl’s name. I often fall hard for boys’ names, but not girls’. I think [name]Ardith[/name] is my favorite spelling.
The one issue I have with this name is that my dad and I are artists. When you say the name [name]Ardith[/name], it sounds a little like a lisping child trying to say “artist.” That probably isn’t a problem for you or for most people considering the name. It might make it a slightly problematic choice for me.
But it’s a beautiful name! Best wishes.
[name]Ardith[/name] would be an excellent compromise for one parent who likes modern ([name]Arden[/name]) and one parent who likes vintage ([name]Edith[/name]). [name]Ardith[/name] isn’t a name I would use myself, but it is lovely and worthy of use.
Oh my goodness! Had never heard of this name before. It’s so nice!
[name]Edith[/name] and [name]Blythe[/name] are too of my favourites. So I like either spelling, [name]Ardith[/name] or [name]Ardyth[/name]. And the meaning is nice too. I find that girl names with h’s seem to me a bit more grown up and womanly. (I’m biased as a Rachel) :). Ardeth reminds me too much of Death.
Hmmm… may have to add this to my list!
I did know a guy in high school - [name]German[/name] with dark skin, long metal head hair, and an accent. He was a nice guy and his name was [name]Adi[/name] (pronounced [name]Ah[/name]-di). I think it would work as a cute nickname for a girl, but right now it reminds me of that guy. Not a bad thing.
