In conjunction with another thread I just posted, I was wondering if there were any Berries that liked the name Eponine. I used to not like it much, but I think it is growing on me and I think the nn [name]Eppie[/name] would be really cute. Anyway, feel free to tell me I’m crazy or let me know that you like the name as well!
It doesn’t appeal to me at all, really. [name]Eppie[/name] sounds like drug slang (maybe because it rhymes with ecky, slang for ecstasy).
Eponine isn’t unfamiliar to me because I’m from a French speaking area, though I’m a [name]Legend[/name] of [name]Zelda[/name] fanatic and would choose Epona as the nickname.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Les[/name] Mis and the character of Eponine. I think she is strong, brave, kind, all qualities I would want in a daughter. I love the name, and I think [name]Pippa[/name] could be a cute nickname.
However…
It’s unusual, almost weird. It would be pronounced wrong often. AND it is SO tied to the one Eponine. I think its generally not a good idea to give kids a name that is tied to one person only. Especially one who, for all her wonderfulness in the musical, wasn’t all that awesome in the orginal book. That being said, I wish I could use the name because I do love it. I’m not sure if I ever could.
[name]Even[/name] with the [name]Les[/name] Mis association, the first thing I think of is horses. It just doesn’t seem like a very flattering name to me.
And [name]Eppie[/name] reminds me of Epinephrine.
Make me thinking about the goddess Epona.
I think I like it, it’s cute, but I’m not crazy about it.
Hey, now. I would take morally gray non-doormat book!Eponine over musical!Eponine any day. [name]Even[/name] if she did do some pretty shady things.
But yeah, as pretty as the name is, I think it ties too closely to the one character. And [name]Eppie[/name] reminds me of an Epipen (as in, the epinephrine pen you stick people with during seizures). To be fair, I also think that “[name]Cosette[/name]” is too closely tied to the musical, but Nameberry seems to think that one’s acceptable. shrugs
I like it. I’ve only heard it in [name]Les[/name] Mis, but I think it’s a pretty name. Another possible nickname could be [name]Nina[/name]?
I heard it as a child because [name]Les[/name] Mis was my moms favorite musical. I adore it, I think it’s beautiful.
I agree that it’s awfully linked to one character…but I do prefer Eponine (name and character) to [name]Cosette[/name].
And I like [name]Eppie[/name]–it’s perky and fun. I think of [name]Ann[/name] [name]Landers[/name] before Epipen.
I like Epona better, (It’s a name from the [name]Legend[/name] of [name]Zelda[/name] series) but both have the same old feel.
I really like the name Eponine. [name]Even[/name] though the name is generally only associated with [name]Les[/name] Miserables, at least there could be worse names from the book to have, such as [name]Cosette[/name] or Euphrasie.
I love the nickname [name]Eppie[/name]!
The full name is lovely, but with the nickname I immediately think of Epi-pen. I think somebody posted re: [name]Eppie[/name] a couple months ago and I remember everyone said “Epi-pen”.
i like Eponine. and love its character in les miserable. actually i don’t like character [name]Cosette[/name]. (tho i like the name)
I adore the name [name]Eponine[/name] and love the character (in the musical anyways), and “On my own” is my favorite song ever. I would love to name my daughter [name]Eponine[/name].
