Our daughter [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] gets affectionately called “[name_f]Della[/name_f]” & I was just wondering if anyone else on Nameberry does this, too?
Most people love it, but I’ve had some strange looks from a few people when I told them this was her nickname, rather than the more common “[name_f]Addie[/name_f].”
[name_f]Della[/name_f] came about for us because her great grandmother (who has a very thick Maltese accent) would pronounce her name as “[name_f]Della[/name_f]-line”. We found this to be adorable & so the NN [name_f]Della[/name_f] was born.
I also noticed [name_u]Blake[/name_u] Lively’s character in The Age of [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] was called [name_f]Della[/name_f].
Are there any other [name_f]Della[/name_f]'s out there???
The only Adelines I know are [name_f]Addie[/name_f]/[name_f]Addy[/name_f]. I just wanted to chime in that I love [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], nn [name_f]Della[/name_f] and the reasoning behind it is really sweet.
Thank you We love the sentiment behind [name_f]Della[/name_f] too. Plus, it makes our two children’s nicknames not so matchy-matchy. Our son’s name is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and he gets called [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. [name_f]Della[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] sounds less fluffy to me than [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]
I don’t have children yet, but [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is on my short list and if I use it for a real daughter, she will definitely be called [name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_m]How[/name_m] lovely! [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is such a beautiful name (although I am a little biased :D) We’ve never once regretted our choice. It suits our curly haired, cheeky, clever little beauty perfectly
